They are waiting to get their OBDII scanner now to proceed to the next step that AMS is requesting.

So did they test the turbo and see if it spins freely?

How far is Shiv from you?

Can you not tune the richness at idle out using the Exede? Obviously the ECU is expecting more airflow at idle than what it's getting. I would think it would be simple to decrease the fuel in the idle cells, but I'm not familiar with the Exede.

How about switching out the turbo with another 30R. I don't think AMS' turbo is propriatary or different then the RNR or Buschur 30R. That would eliminate the turbo as an issue.

Good luck and we all hope it works out for you.
I cant believe you would make a statement like this when YOU know ALL the evidence suggests otherwise. HTF would another interceptor computer be able to fix the problem? I like you Robert but sometimes there is no other way than to look at your comments as underhanded. A stock ECU can be scaled for a wide variety of injectors (though not all) The F'ng xede isnt even offsetting in CLO, it can to an extent but its not used that way. The ECU is scaled for and working on THOUSANDS of EVOs from Al, Buschur, TTrix, Dyno4mance, Vishnu, Works.

On a second note A stand alone could possibly just clear this up (though inducing other short and long term headaches) The reason is you can do non factory feedbacks, threasholds and limits- you can Force it to do any static # you want. There is a condition that isnt being met plain and simple and just because something will totally override the stock ECU doesnt make it a proper fix. You still wont see me running a POS standalone- EVER! Dont know if its the fuel pressure (even though an *** ton of evos have pumps), shivs tune(don think so scaling is easy), ect. but a condition is not being met. I will say that I had a devil of a time with a prototype stage 2 3071 rough idle on my car and overly rich. I have an inline fuel gauge and I was IIRC ~5 PSI too high. The 3071 runs a .63 hotside same as a 3037 though has a littler comp side. I was pulling quite a bit less vac than the stock turbo- Dont recall hard #s. During one of my diagnosis I was running without an inlet and exhaust - something did catch my eye, the rotating assy didnt turn real fast possibly not aiding in the proper vac and corresponding air to fuel and vac. Well this got me playing with the idle adjustment screw and my own rigging of a bleed. Andrew then suggested and sent me the pdf of the ics pickup. I pulled out the multimeter and took a few simple voltage readings and adjusted the ics to the highside of the factor reccommended specs and reset the bleed screw. Car was 100% better and as bothersome as cams only. I had no problems after that and really enjoyed the car.

On a personal note and humbly Im not a pro in this area but I would take the power hit for a 30R .46 hotside instead of the biggish .63 or possibly not a 30R turbine. Still that would be lots bigger than an 16G. I just think the 3071 could benifit in terms of spool though lose HP. But Im sure most wont agree but why not for the 3071- theres lotsa big turbos for the big HP guys

We tried a .48 hotside on my setup and it made significantly less power. Not an option, IMO.

A precision side? I dont see were there is a garrett side. Not that I dont trust precision I just like to keep all things equal. What power did you make?

Dave, I think you've misconstrued my statement. I am no way slamming the Exede. Had I to do it over again, that is probably the choice I would make. My question and comments were truely made out of ignorance in the way the Exede works. Not saying I have not made a snide remark or comment in the past, but that certainly wasn't the attempt here.

Was the .48 hotside something that had to be done to get rid of the rich idle issues with your car?

We tried the smaller hotside to see if spool would improve, which it didn't. It just lost power (over 40whp). I do not know if it was a Garrett product or FP, you'd have to ask Martin that.

I had idle problems after my 30R install. The idle would hunt up and down from 600-2500rpm with no rhyme or reason.I removed the kit and reinstalled it with all new gaskets and that seemed to fix my problem.Have you checked the exhaust manifold for any leaks.Check all gaskets.Like A3zar said take the car home and reinstall the kit yourself.Youll be amazed how much youll learn about your car and youll be able to do your own repairs.
Good Luck

I just heard from Tuning Technologies today. They used an OBDII scanner to scan my Evo, Smogrunner's 2.3L AMS GT35R Evo, and another stock turbo Evo. When my car is hooked up with the OBDII scanner, the readings for fuel and engine load are off the charts. Furthermore, TT disconnected my AMS 3071 turbo and all the readings for my Evo went back to normal like Smogrunner's car and the stock turboed Evo.

It seems like the AMS 3071 kit that was sent to me was a lemon. Now its up to AMS to make good by either refunding all my money or sending me another turbine because I sure as hell don't want to run another 3071. We were unable to contact AMS today because they were closed. We will try tomorrow and see what they have to say. Now I can honestly say that everything has been done to trouble shoot the problems with my Evo. The only thing left to point at is the turbo.

My setup hits full boost by about 3900-4000 rpms. In contrast, ErirR's AMS 3071 kit hits full boost by 3500. For some unknown reason my car just does not want to spool up as it should ... As it stands right now, I will drive the setup as-is, since it does make the kind of power that I'm looking for in the powerband that I was looking for (5000 rpms and up).
