Stage 3 + 4" Intercooler = Knock
Running stage 3 adj for KN intake. Ran great.
Installed a 4" intercooler and LICP and now under load/boost above 4k i get the SES flashing quickly and I can hear the knock. Engine seems to cut out a bit and I can see smoke briefly out the exhaust. Could be black (rich) or oil blow by due to the aggressive cutting out.
I only tested this a few times just to be sure.
So now i'm not certain where to go from here. I really didn't think the Intercooler would throw the Stage 3 tune off that far to require adjusting. However, boost mapping could be off but I don't even break 15lbs before this starts happening.
Mods as follows:
UICP, 4' Intercooler: LICP, KN Intake, HFC Test pipe, Borla C/B, Cobb EBCS

On top of all that my AP OBDII connector looks like it got damaged. Time for an upgrade I think.

I ran an OTS Stage 3 corrected for AEM with an ETS 3.5" and no issues. I am ProTuned now, but that is odd. Are you logging boost/knock/etc? The FMIC is less of a restriction, so in theory you should build more boost earlier.
Yeah. That's what concerns me. Seems odd to be knocking and coughing under load just after an intercooler installation. That's what made me question if i missed something during the install.
Check all your connections for a leak and log some pulls. Need to know where it is kocking and and what your boost is doing to really know what is up.
I would 5-10 counts at WOT in the upper range of 5th gear before a ProTune. But nothing that bad.

This is basically what my car is doing but occurs at more than 1/2 throttle too but is far worse at full.
Car was fine before the intercooler install, like this after.
Checked FPR vacuum hose and its secure. I checked all 4 plugs and they are clean. No broken porcelain and the gap is consistent across all 4.
I double checked everything I removed and it's all secure. Really the worse case I should have is a boost leak and there are none. I've had a boost leak before and it didn't cause this.
I'm waiting for my replacement v3 which should arrive later this week and then I hope to do some pulls / logs.
