well MPG(or l/100km here) might make you think less about reliability, all in all expenses of owning an evo might be the same or maybe even less.

I'll stick to my 8 and my terrible e85 mpg , My thoughts on mpg didn't matter when it comes to my evo and power. That's why I have more then a few cars. I can't wait to see what Mitsubishi makes in the Evo future!!!

yup, as much as MPG, Diesel/Hybrid torque looks promising, the EVO tuning as we know it, might be gone for good or will be atleast 2-3 times more expensive, mind aswell forget about racing fuel and all the commodities that come with petrol
(my biggest hope is that, mitsubishi doesn't give up on all of us and atleast release some kind of Ralliart Lancer that would be succeding the turbo petrol evo's with 300hp)

look up the diesel power gain from stock just by a cheap piggy back install on trucks and other diesel cars today.... The diesel is one of the eaisest - simpliest platform to gain power.

diesel is a race fuel, never knocks basically. Your engine gives up before you max out the diesel.
the electric engine gives you as soon as you leave the 0 rpm the max tq.

theoraticly looks good to me

^ Thank you Rob for setting the record straight. There is so much false information in this thread, it is good to have someone like you dispel all the rumors and incorrect information. Diesels can be modded just like gas engines and as you said, electric motors have instantaneous torque.

Well I admit my knowledge on diesel is obscure. Evo as diesel/hybrid is nothing bad, + I believe 2014 Evo will be using MIVEC-Di-D engine(unique one in diesel department)

^ Talk about getting flim-flammed, I clicked on the link, read the specs and thought for a second that it might be the next Evo engine only to find out you were talking about a Mercedes 4 cylinder. Good one there dude. You had me totally faked out for a moment.

My only and biggest concern, is the fact that the car will be much heavier.

Guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm not a massive fan of diesel but never taken the time to learn about it either. Still think they could've made the diesel hybrid in a lancer or concept car to see how it performs first though.

How do we know its heavier?

A trunk full of batteries isn't exactly light. Plus, based on other hybrid versions of non hybrid platforms, the battery adds ~300 lbs.

I'll weight (all pun intended) and see.

My concerns are weight, the fact that all this torque everyone is talking about is only there when the battery is charged. Max torque will occur with the battery fully charged, unless regulated. And, once that charge is gone, depleted, you are running a standard car, with a large battery pack, and a potentially smaller engine.
