"Evo XI" rumors, speculations, and media reports.
LOL, I was a capacitor engineer for 3 years with Maxwell's subsidiary capacitor company.
As for battery energy vs boostcaps, you get far more energy out of batteries (4.68 MegaJoules in a Prius battery) than Capacitors (< 1 Megajoule in the LARGEST capacitors). Sure the capacitor has the ability to discharge fully within seconds, but again, that's not what a hybrid car is looking for. Now, you could obviously change the loading to discharge slower to make your boost cap last longer (and act like a battery), but why do that if we've already stated that batteries have vastly greater total energy.
As for boost caps being used in most hybrids, they are either short term energy, or used in filter circuits....NOT for long term (>5 secs) power delivery and never to replace batteries.

Nevertheless there's no point even discussing this as mitsu will not use boostcaps.
I just hope they don't combine the bad things that accompany diesel engines with the negatives of batteries to get an overall fuel saving tree hugging devolution.
I just don't understand why they don't test their hybrid system with a lower end car like the lancer or galant before putting it in play in the "high performance" evo.
I said that boostcaps were being used to extend the main battery's life i never said they were being used on their own. Batteries vs boostcaps are completely different systems and both have advantages as well as disadvantages.

I think they should use Mr.Fusion to power the next evo's electric motors. lol
Anyhow,
so let me get this straight Mitsu UK is going to build a evo successor because the yen from Japan is increasing?
interesting..
so that means the rest of the world except the UK will have the evo? and UK will have its own designed AWD performance "saloon" ... Seems counter intutive.. and production cost @ the UK will increase the cost of this so called successor. I think the article is not giving us the full story.

If UK builds their own evo, I guess it will be time to start saving for the import.

I would rather have no new evo than a Diesel Hybrid. Its kind of as bad as toyota cranking a new Prius and Calling the it a Supra.
Though kids these days, I think I read somewhere its as low as 30% of them get their license at 16. My girlfriend is a couple years younger than me and didnt get hers until 18. And her best friend is a year older than her, and just got her learners permit 2 months ago. I think that is part of the problem.

Obviously we don't know ANYTHING about the car and it could turn out to be a turd, but lets hold off judgement until we have the facts.

A quick math and that will place you at 23ish years of age.. lol
I dont know how "Kids" have anything to do with the situation. Obviously people are afraid of change.
As stated before, if I dont like the New Evo, simple solution.. DONT GET IT. Mitsubishi cant make everyone happy. That's why I am keeping my evo and rebuilding it..
Agreed there. If it's really that bad then just don't buy. Then Mitsu will realize they made a mistake and hopefully go back to the old fashioned gas guzzler.. Or they may start a new breed of something of awesome'ness. We won't know until then.
best idea from start for mitsubishi is to uptrim next lancer ralliart to what evolution is now.
Having a hybrid deisel is deffinitely a change, but seeing how it has never been done before, it is still too early to tell what kind of car it will actually turn out to be. So there really is no point in speculating and wondering what's going to happen seeing how production hasn't even started yet.
But Mitsubishi (in my opinion) has yet to mess up an evo design since the beginning, and its been what 20 years now?
just my .02

That is some of the worst news I heard all day besides for the tragedy that happend in Colorado this country is trying to turn us in to some tree huggin prius Driveing sissys the day of true motorsports are goin away because of regulations and people we have running this country long live the cars of yesteryear !!!
anyways, what's so bad about saving money on gas while still driving a performance car that bears the name of evo? my car gets 22/30 right now I detuned it for gas milage lol.... but it's a relief on the pocket when DD, and still fun to drive.
