Exclamation learned to launch

whats up guys, to launch in this is simple. I have a 2k5 1/2 so i have that limiter which stops the revs at 5500k. You must release the clutch until it is about to catch (to release the tenson of the drivetrain) and slip the cluch quickley and at the same time pin the gas petal and thats it. I got it on my second try.

How many launches can a stock 2005 handle? The EVO is not so fast off the line without launching, IMO, so I'd like to see what the AWD can do. I've had success launching RWD cars.

I've already got 3200 miles on my car in just 6 weeks (i drive A LOT) so it's time to try some quick starts...

I have 6,500 miles on my 2004 and I've never really launched "hard." I've done some real quick slips at about 5K and it's absolutely incredible. I just want to master driving the car normally before I get down to the complicated stuff, where one little mistake can cost you $2,000+. My friend who also has a 2004 has launched his car hard at the track at least 25+ times and he has about 14,000 miles on his car. He said his clutch still grabs like it did at 1K miles. I guess it's just all about how good you can launch the car. Someone like me trying to lauch is where all the, "the stock evo clutch and transfer case are $hit," rumors come from.

It's like seeing those old "Magic Eye" pictures. Once you get it you know it, but it's kind of hard to explain.

Is this documented somewhere that 2005.5 Evo's have 5.5k limiter or are you just going by what it says on the tach (not always accurate)?

Spinning tires is wierd, but I went sideways off the line when I met up with Warrtalon, Mikey52, and Ivan at Mason Dixon. I have to say it scared the **** out of me.

How many times you can launch a car hard is relative, no 2 cars are the same. You have to pay to play, so if you're not ready to dish out money for parts then I wouldn't launch the car period, you CAN break it very quickly if you don't know what you're doing.

The limiter is at 5000, not 5500. If you are launching without hitting the limiter, then it is too low, and you are burning the clutch from slipping it too much. You also don't know if your launch is good until you go to the drag strip and see your 60'. Often time people think they are launching well only to find out their 60's are terrible.

Go try it at the track and see what happens.

hi wartalon i saw some japanese videos form best motoring were they launch this cars at 7200rpm and they drop the clutch why is it that in the usdm model its so different? by the way the japanese guys say that you must have wheelspin to avoid any damage to the drivetrain !!
also on a stock gsr they did 12.7sec the quarter mile!!

definately correct. this is one of the hardest cars to "launch" correctly. i had to relearn all my previously learned methods(fwd, rwd). launching correctly will be fast but a little tough on the clutch. but when you do it-wow, like a slingshot. anyway, you can undo the limiter(search), but i'm to lazy and try and launch around 47k cause i'm not that hard core.

I can only say it's normal in that mine was that way when stock. I don't know about others.

People bring that up a lot, but the JDM Evo is just not the same as the USDM Evo. Their tires aren't as sticky for one, and they have more power. Wheelspin _does_ help to prevent drivetrain damage, but too much of it hurts your 60'. There's a fine line there that is hard to hit perfectly everytime.
