got some new track times
got some new track times
went to capitol raceway friday night. im pretty happy with my times because i know i can lower them a bit more. i only made 2 passes because i had a party to get to. here they are.
60ft--1.743
1/8---8.105 @ 86mph
1/4---12.738 @105mph
on that run i launched at 6k and shifted too early in every gear. shifted at like 7k insted of 8k. im not really sure why my trap speed is so low. shouldnt it be up around 110mph? anyone have any clue why it might have been so low?
2nd run made me madder than hell and im still pretty bent out about it. it was against a vette zo6. i had him by about 4 cars all the way down the track untill i missed my 4th gear shift. i actually stuck it in 2nd for a sec. heard the revs jump way up and pulled it right back out and stuck it in 4th. but by that time the vette had passed me. i think this could have been a 12.4 or 12.3 sec pass but anyway here is how it went.
60ft--1.721
1/8---8.093 @83mph
1/4---13.3 @ 92mph
the vette ran a 12.3 @120mph.
mods are intake, tbe , helix 272's and a jestr e-flash
so how do you all think i did?

Hmm, very strange.
First of all, 7k is the proper place to shift. Why would you think 8k is proper? We don't make any power up there on the stock turbo, and that's at the limit of the head's safety zone. With your 272s, 7400 might be the highest you would want to shift, but 7200-7300 is probably best. It depends on what your dynograph shows.
Secondly, there is either a big problem at the top of 4th with knock, or you hit the brakes early, because you didn't drive well enough to hit a 12.7@105, and you only gained 19mph. With an 8.1@86, you should have seen around 108mph in the 1/4 and maybe a 12.5-12.6. For reference, with an SAFC as my only mod, I ran 12.8@106.3 on that same track with an 8.0@84 on a 1.76 60'. Your car is faster than mine was at the time, your 60' was better, and your ET was better, but your 1/4 mph was lower. You're either knocking up top or made a mistake, but only you can know if you did something wrong.
Lastly, why do you have an e-flash from a relatively newcomer to the Evo tuning scene who is located in Florida when you have so many custom tuning options right in your area. You have Dynoflash who comes to DC every few months, Turbotrix a fairly short drive away in NJ, Atlantic Motorsports in Gaithersburg, and ISP Racing at the corner of 95/495 Northeast of DC.
To answer your question, I think you launched well and drove well, but you need to go back and see if you keep having top-end troubles on subsequent runs. If so, do some logging (if you know how) and have Jestr adjust the map via email, or go to an actual tuner in your area who can provide a custom tune. You also need an MBC, BOV, and a fuel pump to complete your setup - those should have been installed before the 272s and instead of the intake.

i didnt get to log the runs because my laptop crapped out on me earlier on that day. on doing some logs days before the track i do have a bit of knock around 6k-7k . anywhere from 1ct. to 10cts.
i dont think i made a mistake, but then again i might have. its a blur now.
also i have a mbc set at stock boost (21psi spike) forgot about that. and a fp (didnt think i needed to say that). dont have a bov tho. i thought they were just for noise and hurt performance because of the maf?
i kept reading good things about the jestr flash so i thought ide give it a try. im saving up for a alki kit now and planned on getting a real tune once that goes in. just figured ide save some loot and get a e-flash in the mean time. and btw im not going back to ams in gaithersburg. they installed my cams and forgot to tighten down 5 bolts on my valve cover so oil spit out everywhere. they didnt even tighten down the harness bracket bolts. not that that matters but it still worries me. and i dont mean they were alittle loose. i mean they had like half the threads sticking up.
i sent j. estr my logs thursday and he is supposed to be sending me a new log with the knock tuned out.
thanks for your input man. its appreciated.

1) Were those logs of 4th gear? I am doubting you did 4th gear pulls in public to 7k rpm, so I'm guessing those were 3rd gear pulls with knock. You really needed your on-track 4th gear logs to show Jestr exactly what's happening at the top of 4th on the track. Tweaking 3rd gear won't help much, so keep that in mind. It's too bad your laptop crapped out.
2) 21psi is not stock boost, but it's fairly close to the stock max on 05s (20.3 psi). Even set at or near stock, the MBC helps a lot, because it removes a lot of the taper, which is the most important part on the drag strip, since you're always in the 5500-7000rpm range.
3) Well, no man, the stock plastic POS BOV on the 03-05 Evo is really crappy. The technical term "BOV" does refer to a valve that vents to atmosphere, but I wasn't talking about one of those. I'm just talking about a direct replacement diverter valve (BOV and DV are interchangeable in speaking terms) that actually holds all of that 21psi efficiently unlike your stocker. Upgrade to a JDM MR DV (or stock IX DV), or since you plan on alky, get the Forge RS DV, since the JDM MR DV starts leaking around 24-25psi, and the Forge will hold up to 40psi efficiently.
4) No, a fuel pump is not a given. People have blown motors due to the stocker failing.
5) In reference to why you tried the e-flash, that makes sense. Getting a $50 flash through email to hold you over until getting a full custom tune on alky makes perfect sense.
6) Well, I wouldn't necessarily suggest AMS-T for tuning anyway, since they just started doing it, but I was just trying to list all the local flash tuners at your disposal. I'm surprised they made those mistakes when doing your cams - they do a great service to the DC area.
