Talking Track results after first round of Mods: AMS Stage 1.5

I got my car tuned a couple of weeks back by the Chris @ AMS. It made 317whp and 320ft-lbs of torque @ 22 psi with thw following mods (the dyno plot can be seen here: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...php?t=277129):

HKS super hybrid drop in panel
AMS TBE with test pipe
AMS LICP
Walbro 255lph fuel pump
Hallman Pro RX MBC set @ 22psi peak and tapering to about 18-19psi on 93octane

(I like to call this set of Mods, AMS Stage 1.5, hahaha!!!)

Yesterday I was finally able to hit the track, I made six runs, in all of which I trapped 110mph on average.

Right of the bat I ran 12.70 @110.25mph with 1.895 60ft time.

My worst pass of the night was 12.743 @109.79mph with 1.935 60ft time.

As can be seen by the results above my 60ft time was very much less than stellar for an EVO, even with a stock clutch, but given the fact that this is only my third time drag racing it or AWD drive car for that matter, my 1.895 was my best yet.

To give some perspective on my results, with just an HKS drop in panel, back in October I ran 13.16 @105.4mph with 1.953 60ft time. Then in april of this year I went again and my best run was 13.3 @104mph with 2.1 60ft time.

Now tonight with some good coaching on how to launch the car by my friend Nvr2old32, (Mike thanks for giving me the pointers that made this run happen) on the last run of the night I was able to accomplish this:

60' .... 1.725
330 ... 5.117
1/8 ... 7.952
MPH @ 1/8 mile ... 86.70
1000 ... 10.373
1/4 ... 12.427
MPH @ 1/4 mile ... 110.34

I know that the 60ft time can go down a bit more and that I can test out different shift points, but I don't want to play with fire and get burned since this is my daily driver. I think I got a pretty good run out the car last night.

The run felt awesome.

I want to thank AMS for making and selling great parts, for having great customer service (Eric and the rest of the crew, you guys rock!!!).

I also want to thank Chris for a great and safe tune, the car performed flawlessly last night.

Awesome numbers, with practice, you'll get faster. How do you like the sound of the exhaust with test pipe? I was planning on going to Ams in August for the same parts plus a FMI.

I think you did a fine job and drove very well. I'm not sure why you say 1.72 is less than stellar on the stock clutch. Very few do that well, and I'm not so sure about the "I know I can get the 60ft time down a bit more." I wouldn't expect that. However, you have another 2 tenths to gain from better shifting, so you can work on that. Use your dynograph to determine the best shift point.

As I said, you drove well, and it looks like your traps match the dynograph just right. With 317whp, I would have guessed 110+ traps, and that's what you got, so that looks accurate. That is not very good power for the mods on a IX, though. It's ok, but it's more in line with a stg1 VIII. I trapped 110 on a base flash and stg1 mods, so I think you have another 30-40whp in there somewhere...

Thanks, I know that with practice (and with less humidity, last night was very humid at the track) I could potentially get down to 12.3 and who know maybe to 12.2's.

With regards to the AMS TBE with test pipe, I love the sound of the AMS exhaust, all TBE's with a test pipe will be a bit loud, but you won't regret the power, the quality and the sound of the system. I also have a piece to quiet it down a bit when I need it, if you want to know PM me abd I will let you know!!!

Just to make things clear:

If you read my post well, I wasn't referring to my 1.72 as less than stellar on the stock clutch, instead I was referring to the previous pases, as my post states: As can be seen by the results above my 60ft time...

I also did not state that I (me driving) could improve the 60' time, instead this is what I said: "I know that the 60ft time can go down a bit more", maybe with a great driver, but not me.

I agree with you that with better shifting I could potentially improve my times. I believe that comparing my mods to a Buschur Stage 1 package, the only mod that I have that is not there is the LICP. With regards to my level of power, I am very satisfied, if there are another 30-40whp in there, maybe, but as long as my car is safe and I am happy and satisfied, that is all that matters to me.

Warr, thanks for your analysis and your input, I'll take a better look at my dyno chart to try to determine where I should be shifting to improve my times.

Well, no reason to talk about the 60's separately. Your best is what matters.

My intention was to show what my best 60' time was before that final run of the night.

Jose,

It was great seeing you pull such great times with this being your 3rd time out and new to the awd. I may have helped a little on the launching but your driving skills were all you! I can go back and looks at some of my 11 second passes and your right there with me until the end. I wish I could shift as well as you. If I could, I would have already hit a low 11 second pass!

Again, great results as expected and great driving! See you next week.

Mike

I saw this evo run that night with very strong and consistent runs.
Very cool guy as well.

Props to such good et's with little experience with awd and drag racing. Im sure if you replace the cams, you will see high 11's once you get your shifting techniques dialed.

Dan. aka big guy who talked to you in pit lane.
