17th Annual DSM/EVO Shootout **MEGA MERGE THREAD**
He was there testing the tires.
Al was running our diff eliminator spool in this semi-finals video. Good thing it was in there but not too sure why it hasn't been mentioned. The new aluminum driveshaft broke earlier and the diff got the blame until they soon found out the spool was perfect and the driveshaft was in pieces.

Are you saying that the AWD aluminum driveshaft that Al just installed failed? I am contemplating that piece and that would be an interesting piece of information. Of course if the driveshaft did fail that doesn't mean that the driveshaft is crap...there could have been a manufacturer's defect. I just find it strange that Al was all excited about trying out this driveshaft, but come the races and afterwards never mentioned anything about it..such as "I could definitely feel the car accelerate quicker" or something along those lines. Just a little confused here.

I am not trying to be a PIA, but am trying to simply sort out who is who, and who is doing what. Again, it doesn't help not knowing all of you...even though I've been a forum member for about 2 years now that doesn't mean that I can keep track of all the people and changes going on.

David,
I have a blast at every shootout, but I would have to say that this was by far the best one yet! Thanks for letting me drive the Bad Bish! To say the least, it's always a pleasure to get behind the wheel of that bad boy!
It's always a blast to race, but hanging out with old friends that you sometimes only see once a year and meeting new friends for the first time is what really makes this event special! I honestly couldn't think of a better way to spend a week's vacation
Al, you are one of the funniest ****'s I know! It's always a pleasure to see you at the shootout! Also, congrats on the 2nd place finsh in Q16. You drove your a$$ off buddy!
It was also nice meeting and hanging out with everyone from AWD! Nice to finally put names and faces together. You guys are great and have an awesome car! Keep up the good work!
Can't wait till next year, time to put in next years Vacation request

We tested the tires first on IndyEvo's 2006 Evo IX in Indiana. Then we took them off of his car and I took them to the Shootout and Chris (streetthisevo) ran them for 3 runs and broke his 4th gear. We then took them off of his car and placed them on vwjeff's car. The next 7 or 8 runs were made with the Hoosiers. My own car was left in Indianapolis, since we weren't going to run it. It was just completed with new cage, wiring, chute, etc but no time to get the engine broken in and ready for the event.

Any idea what caused the 4th gear breakage? Mis-shift? Worn parts? etc.
Mike -- What exactly happened? Or are you keeping it to your self? I have never seen so much instant destruction so fast in my life! And that turbo.. jesus!

How does that much carnage happen that fast?

A few clarifications
I never thought that the diff eliminator / spool was broken - I assumed originally that the pinion shaft had cracked in half again. Your spool is a part which I never expect to ever need to replace. The pinion shaft in the rear is not a part which is going to last IMHO.
After we started to pull the rear diff we realized that the driveshaft was actually the part which failed.
Something which I have not discussed is that Mike had given me a free sample of a test ULTRA lighweight alum driveshaft proto type to test. It weighs 5 pounds less than his ordinary drive shaft. I was warned up front that the new PROTO TYPE was experimental and I was a beta tester.
That is why I have not been blabbing my mouth about it breaking.
Also when it comes to customer service - the most important part of dealing with a company is what they do when a problem develops. In this case the AWD team immediately when into action lending me a spot to wrench on my car and actually doing the work for me and gving me the gear lube I needed to refresh my rear diff. Customer service like that and standing behind a product is what seperates the boys from the men in this business. if you have not noticed - I am very VERY happy to have AWD as one of my sponsors.
Too bad that the lightweight version was too weak. If you dont try things like this then you'll never know.
I have my AWD driveshaft regular version on order.
It was good to see you at the event but it was regretable not to see your car and family all of whom I missed.

As for the spool in our car I can assure i am removing it 1st thing tomorow and will throw it in the canal behind my shop.. I am not going to associate with someone like you and allow you the credit when the car 60fts any better and runs lower 8's,.. The car ran 8.75 & 167mph with a stock RS rear and thats going back in the car tomorrow..
Mike
Sorry...ignorance appears to be > me in this situation. Don't you have your own Evo that you race (or test parts on)? If so, I thought you took this Evo the the Shootout to test the tires...not sure what the reference to Al is. Was he running the Hoosiers? I heard in a round-a-about weight that you broke down, not sure if that means your Evo or somebody else's, and then Jeff tested the tires.

Thanks Al for the support.. This is why we brought this unit up to Ohio ourselves to test it while we were there.. Al was ok with testing it and when we had an issue we jacked up the car on jack stands and got him back in action to make the next round.. I would also like to thank our friend Emery @ STM who lended a hand and some small parts to make the swap fast an easy..
It looks to me like there is an Ego issue with someone who showed up to the track to race their Truck and Trailer since there was no car inside the trailer..

Only reason I ask is I was lined up to race Chris round one which would have actually been a good race seeing as how we both had problems with our cars. Next thing I knew Trent pulled off the side, a couple cars raced and I end up lined up with project white round 1 and obviously got killed.
I was just confused as to why the cars weren't raced in the order they were lined up like always.
Not a big deal, like I said I had issues and had no chance of winning anyways.
