First Time at the Track, Las Vegas
First Time at the Track, Las Vegas
So my first time ever in my life, I went to the track to run instead of just spectate.
I have Intake, Exhaust, UICP, LICP, and a 100 oct tune at 25 psi.
I made 290 whp and 330 tq on a mustang dyno. I was told these numbers are low for my mods, so I'll have to go back to the drawing board and see whats wrong.
Las Vegas Speedway is roughly 2100 ft above sea level. Any tips or criticism is much appreciated. I just want to get better thanks ahead of time. I stayed in 4th to 7200 rpms throughout the run, but I heard the MR guys shift to 5th. I'll have to try that out next time.
1st Run
r/t .434
60' 2.017
330 5.824
1/8 8.946
mph 75.33
1000 11.591
1/4 13.760 @ 104.58
2nd Run
r/t .174
60' 1.868
330 5.498
1/8 8.536
mph 78.59
1000 11.151
1/4 13.311 @ 104.14
3rd Run
r/t .756
60' 1.783
330 5.365
1/8 8.378
mph 81.10
1000 10.979
1/4 13.131 @ 104.52

You should proly use 5th, and besides it was your 1st time, so it will get better!
Maybe I will see ya out there in a month or so. I will be at the track alot hangin out... just w/o my Evo

your reaction time is good on the first run. the second took longer and the third one you took your time.
two step was better used, in producing more psi off the line, and it showed on the 60'FT. time. good runs
. those are alright looking numbers for the first time. better than my first time. of 13.34 with a cat back test pipe intake upper ic pipes. stock clutche= burnt clutch
You dont need to shift to 5th. I have an MR and trap 113 in 4th. I think your limiting factor is the 290whp and low trap speed. Your 60ft could be improved but it's not bad for your first time out. Your reaction time does not affect your ET or trap speed, it's only important for bracket and heads up racing.
with my 290 whp and full weight minus spare tire what should I be hitting? Judging from my 60's if I could get it down to a 1.700, I should be able to break into the 12.9x? I'll have to go back out and try for that. I have been stocking up parts and trying to improve my driving before I put them all in. Thanks again everyone.

I think your right around where you should be for 290whp. The question I have is why are you making 330tq and only 290whp? Have you logged your car during a 1/4 mile run? What are you tapering to? Boost control method?
It will probably take a bit more horsepower to get down to a 1.700 60ft, In a perfect world around 320whp. Also, just let the light go green and then launch when your ready... it will not affect your ET or trap speed.

Im not to sure why I make such low hp and high tq. I would guess it is how my car was tuned? When I looked at the dyno graph my tuner had on his car he made a lot more power and even more torque because he has more mods. I think he was 345 whp and 380 tq? something like that. I've never logged my car, I'll try to ask the local guys around to see if they could help me with that.
Im running a Forge mbc hitting 25 psi at peak boost and if I remember correctly it tapers down to about 20-21 psi atleast thats what the dyno shows. I'll double check on that when I get home. Thanks for all the help Mr. Evo.

As said above, if you have the ability to log your runs and see how long it's taking you to shift, that could be a big reason why your not running better times.
Not to say anything bad, but last year I took my car to the track, (Buschurs 4 banger shootout) at that time it was my very first race as well, when my car was all stock (just spare, and seats taken out) and pulled off a 12.95 @ 106.32 and backed it up two other times.
My slip for comparison:
R/T: .199
60': 1.898
330': 5.395
1/8: 8.311 @ 82.63mph
1000': 10.831
1/4: 12.952 @ 106.32mph
So it would be good to see where your losing time.. Edit.. I just noticed that regardless of your 1/8th MPH trap, your still trapping 104 in the 1/4 in each run. Does your car seem to "go away" a bit at the top of 4th gear?
