Sorry if you mentioned it in a prior post but what COP are you running?

I recently saw first hand a SpoolinUp COP (non-cdi) that had some wiring issues on a customer's Evo when we tried to fire it up after the motor puked a rod and was replaced.

Ran like it was on 3 cylinders and since i had my SparkTech COP nearby i offered to throw it on to see if it helped and BAM no issues at all!

I try not to bad-mouth any company out there regardless of if they are a vendor here or not but i'm not too impressed with the quality of those kits

i have a spark tech PRO c.o.p. on the car for the past 3 years. i sent back the c.o.p. a few weeks ago when this issue started. i had put 4 new coilpacks on it and Craig lent me a new CDI to try. so it is basically a new unit again.

Ok sounds wierd i know Joey (Evosick) was also having issues with his i hope it's figured out for the both of you.

I will soon be putting on the same system when i get the package from Craig so hopefully mine does not do the same.

I wonder if it was an issue with the box after so many years and being that the coils were replaced

the cdi was also replaced. lol

craig thinks the cam sensor is weak. and maybe the more powerful ignition is causing the weak sensor to go nuts. i mean this is 2 c.o.p.'s i tested. 2 stock ignitions and i had the issue with stock ignition until i cleaned the sensor. then it cleared up. then i put the c.o.p. back on ''with new coil packs and cdi box'' and it broke up. swapped to stock again and it was clean.

i am losing my mind. HA.

Dan,

This is very noobish but did you check your spark plug gap?

Mine was off by hundreths on two plugs and it was missing like crazy. Checked the gap and the misfires went away.

Maybe something is up with the wire harness of the sparktech??

If you want, I have a new cdi pro 12 on my car at Ivey's shop. If you want to use it to test and try to eliminate the sources let me know.

my counter top in the garage has 40+ new ''but used for test'' spark plugs. anytime i change or test something i been putting brand new plugs in. a waste of money maybe but it is just how i do things. i have played with gaps from .014 to .020 on stock ignition and C.O.P. on stock right now it is at .018 and the car is pulling clean to 8500rpm.

when the c.o.p. is on ''at the same gap'' i am gitting issues.

here is what i am doing next. i am replacing the cam sensor. and also saturday i am putting the sparktech c.o.p. on a buddies car to test it out. the car it is going on runs 100%. it does not make the HP mine does but that should mean nothing as the c.o.p. broke up on my car at 25psi and the car it is going on runs 25psi.

if the c.o.p. is working properly then there is something up with my car. if it is not the cam sensor then i am replacing the engine harness. you may think......... but there are a few reasons why i want to go this route.

if after that project the car still does not work. then i am done with it. im parting the car out and pushing the shell into the lake and walking away.

Shat were you running before the pro? were you stock ignition? I run the sparktech NON-CDI at 40lbs all day and it never skips a beat. hopefully the cam angle sensor will be the cure.GL

so. while i was waiting for my cam sensor to show up the past 2 days i built my self a nice grounding system. i was talking to Alex at dog box racing and he recommended i add a ground or so. mainly the head to the chassis. so i ordered a few things and got to work. i ended up going a bit over board HAHA. anyways here is what i did. and i am not done yet. i still have 1 or 2 more i will build.

i ordered 4 gauge wire. 4 gauge copper ring terminals coated in tin with 3 different ring sizes. some heat shrink stuff.

1st one i upgraded the stock ground from the intake manifold to the fire wall.

next ground wire i added was from the head to the chassis.

i also grounded the block to the chassis as well. but i cant get a pic of that. i bolted it to the bolt hole the stock intake manifold bracket go's to the block.

here is the 2 added ground wires that i grounded to the same place as the stock battery to the chassis. i also drilled and tapped out the hole and upgraded it to a bigger 8MM bolt.

what i will do next is replace the stock ground wire off the alternator to battery with the same 4 gauge wire.

i hope you guys like it.
