Scot,
Which do you like better your Typhoon or Evo?
Which one is currently faster?
Those typhoons and cyclones were so underrated and unknown back in the day and presently. How long have you owned it?

hi scot!
a 1991 GMC Syclone was the second new vehicle i ever purchased (sorry for the low quality pic; thats my truck in front of my old house in Erial NJ):

i LOVED that truck! it was definitely a "one trick pony" though..... GMC recommended not ever putting anything in the bed (at least nothing over 250 lbs, if i remember correctly) and never towing anything with it.
the brakes would give you one or two good stops from 100+, then fade out to nothing. the handling was Ok, i guess, as long as the road was smooth with no bumps or frost heaves, otherwise the rear end would skitter all over the place.
but, boy o boy, when you brake torqued it and let 'er rip, holy cow! it would rape my evo (stock for stock) up to 60 mph. mine was bone bone stock (no chip, nothing) and it had so much power that the brakes wouldn't hold it when you launched; i could only apply about 2/3 throttle or the rear wheels would start spinning and the front wheels would drag the truck forward.... i think my best 1/4 mile time in that thing was 13.0x at 100.x mph. for its time, it was about the fastest thing out there in a light-to-light race.....
back in those days, i was autocrossing, too. i won a few BS trophies with that truck!!!
autocrossing that thing was an exercise in left foot braking; basically get it through the turn, only to blast off at warp 10 down to the next turn. it was ugly, and chewed up the tires and brakes incredibly, but it won a bunch of autocrosses in the Philly region (fairly active, tough region).
i loved that damn truck! wish i had never sold it! but i was commuting 85 miles per day at the time, and 16 mpg was not cutting it, man!!!!

Its Syclone, with an S. I have three of them. Bought one new. Also have the last Sonoma GT made also, which was identical in the interior, 195 hp injected 4.3, same trans and rear end ratio. But 2wd and no turbo. Good for a beater vehicle.
I laugh when I see people say they don't handle well or brake. Its an old design. Was good at the time. Never really intended to be a sports car in terms of overall handling.
Its hard to find a decent Syclone ot Typhoon today. Most were abused when new. Engines liked to bend and break rods pretty easily when detonated to death. Especially with some of the agressive chips that were on the market from 92-96. After that gearheads figured out how to do their own. Some excellent chips available now for that engine. Head gaskets didn't blow that easily though like a Buick GN. As with any vehicle there are little issues and components that gave trouble and failed. Still was a unique and strong performing vehicle. Its fun to drive an AT vehicle. And not to rev it high or launch it hard to do a fast takeoff. Torque is king, and the Syclone makes a lot of it. Not bad for a 17c Mitsu turbo on 14 psi, and a 3800 pound plus truck.

Typhoon is neat because you don't see them too often. I am pretty sure the Evo can beat up on the ty...especially from 70mph and beyond!
Mine is red/red and has under 17k miles on it.

I've run 12.01@113 at Sacramento Raceway with the Ultimate chip, TE-44 turbo and and an A2A IC, 3 inch exhaust and cat con delete. Motor is bone stock. Truck is very competitive in the RENO SCCA autox street tire class as well.
thanks for the idea's, but I don't want to do that much work to my truck with it only have 17k miles....

A greater amount of timing is pulled when knock is detected and it pulls it out faster than the stock EPROM.
