My take on Dynoflash

Hi everybody, I'm not a high volume poster, so most of you may be reading my words for the first time. This past saturday I participated in the Dynoflash day at Pruven Performance along with several other EVO owners from around the Northeast. I was there for the 9:30 to 11:00 appointment and arrived at around 9:20. Al was working on someone else's car and was running a little late. But with everything said and done, he began to tune my car at around 10:15 and finished at about 11:20 and I was welcomed to watch at all times.

My mods are in my signature and my dynosheet is attached below but the peak numbers, 304whp/330 lb-ft of torque are similar to what other tuners/dynos have gotten with similar mods (Again, SIMILAR, maybe a little lower, higher correction, whatever). During my test drive and my subsequent 100 mile back to New Jersey, I noticed significant improvements in both the magnitude and the quality of my power curve.

With this said, I have no vested interest in Al's product being made more popular or less popular or if his business succeeds or fails. I am, I believe, like most of you here, that is I simply want the best for my hard earned money. This custom tune by Al cost me all of $275 and gained me around 30whp and 45lbft of torque. I did not observe any dyno-shenanigans or anything like that (they did spray down the Intercooler with a water sprayer and also the intake manifold, but I have seen this done elsewhere as well). I am not blind to the fact that there are vishnu guys on here or guys with EMS tuned by Turbotrix that may be making more power (even safely and reliably) but I don't think anyone will argue that I would have paid significantly more money for those things and, in the case of Shiv, logistics (him being in San Fran) are an issue.

As far as Al's customer service is concerned, I think that is a matter of personal opinion and the particular encounter. Yes, the man curses a lot, yes he banters a bit, but in the end, he answered my questions, gave me the tune I needed and was very polite both to me and to my Father (who accompanied me to see if it was worthwhile for him to start playing with his EVO).

So the simple question is, was what I received this saturday worth my $275? absolutely? are there ways I could be making more power? probably. For less or equal money? Tell me if there is, because I will use it.

Sorry for the long post. Peace everybody.

Makaveli, great post man, I pretty much feel the same as you. I am very happy with my tune and got exactly what i paid for! Al has tuned my car twice and will do it a third time. WHY? Because his flashes work!!!! Some people just excpect certain hp#'s and everything to go right on the dyno (mechanically speaking), but the truth is problems arise and they aren't any one's fault. But people will always bash and talk trash online because they are dissapointed and need to point blame, where it isn't deserved to make themselves feel better!

personally, i don't care if the dynoflash is a good product or not. it could be the best damn mod in the world for all i care but i would NEVER give my hard-earned money to guy like Al. just from reading his posts i know enough about him to stay the hell away.

Funny thing, the internet. I reserve judgement about anyone until I meet them in person or at least speak to them on the phone. IM/Email/Forum posts have pretty much zero value for the sake of characterizing someone. But again, you opinion is yours. I was just trying to draw attention to the fact that Dynoflash does pretty much what he says it will do for a very reasonable price and lets not forget that price is at least 50% the selling point of any product.

264/272 cams

DaveWhiteEvo,
The cams are nice. I didn't really feel much of a diff after the install but I'm definitely very happy with the total product (all the mods and the tune). You can verify with 2sloevo or memo3 but the car idles kind of rough. Personally, I like the lub-dub-dub (certainly nothing like a big-cam small block) but still very mean sounding.

you should def notice a difference with the cams up top. I personally do not know the difference in gains, but you probably could have gotten 310 maybe more with a better DP and possibly TB, but im not sure how much better a buschur or an RMR is vs the Helix.

Whats your Boost set to?

well, i think your average nice guy just wouldn't write the stuff i've seen Al write on EvoM. but who knows?

bottom line: since i don't know jack about tuning, i'll always try to stay away from anyone who seems shady...and "Big Al" just seems shady. jmo of course.

i love the way the 264/272 combo idles, sounds wicked! my straight 264's idle pretty much stock except my exhaust note at idle sounds a little meaner, pulls like a mother from boost till redline, very happy!

Daveswhiteevo, 264/272 or 264/264 you will like either setup! Both combo's make a huge difference, as both are cars had similar mods and close to identical #'s! Good luck!

makaveli_31 , great post! I could not agree with you more on how the results feel. I couldn't wipe the smile off my face for three days after my tune! I was, and still am, in heaven when I drive my car.

Good write up. Thanks for keeping it positive for change.

Man, now you got me thinking again.. I really need to decide between 264/264 and 264/272. I'm torn!

whats funny is my best friend has all the same mods minus the cams and puts more whp out than you on a more conservative dyno(the dyno we use base lines an evo at 218whp). hes running a turbo trix mail-in flash because he was unhappy with his dyno flash, the best part is turbo trix charged absolutly nothing for this flash. guess if your happy with what you've got then thats great, but the reason other people get pissed is because there are better products out there for your money.

p.s. the dynoflash he had was tuned in person by al, it wasnt a mail in like the turbo trix was and his a/f ratio runs perfect.
