Great news for ethanol users. You can make your own E100.

I just read this today. A machine was released today for consumers to make their own ethanol. Makes 35 gallons/week, 100% ethanol.

I really wish I was rich enough to buy one. Maybe tuning shops around the country can stock up on these and people that can't buy a machine can go fill up.

That's nice, Moonshiners do it a lot cheaper. My friend has a big 200 gallon burner but the price of corn per bushel is to high. You won't save any money unless you grow the corn yourself or find a different source to burn.

That thing uses sugar instead of corn though. Still $10k buys about 50,000 miles worth of E85.. Plus you have to pay for the ingredients. Can't say its really worth it at that price

Just like the environmental movement. A LOT of HOT AIR.... You pay BIG time up front for something that takes forever to get your investment back if ever.

Here is an idea *** hats (not directed at anyone here) DRILL FOR OIL HERE!!!! There is plenty to go around make no mistake about that.

I did some more reading on this thing (was bored). It takes 14lb of sugar and up to 4gals of water per gallon of ethanol made. The bulk spot price of sugar is about 14c per lb. If you didn't have to pay any markup on the sugar, and got free delivery, and didnt pay for the water, it would cost you about $2/gal. Plus $10k up front for the machine.

Yeah I don't think so. I bet with markup on the sugar and delivery it would cost almost the same as what you pay at the gas station

This is all very true, the difference is you using something that is completely biodegradable, and is 105 octance (e85 given if you mixed it with gasoline). And your not producing nearly the same amount of toxins and carbon dixocide into the atomosphere.

Right now cost are going to be high, because it is not streamlined.

And ethanol fuel is not the future, but a blend of other altenatives such as hybrid, ethanol fuel might be the future.

If they were only $5k (price of turbo kit), I think I would buy one and use it for weekly fill ups and use it for races.

For some reason I see alot of benefit in this.

The unit for individual is $9,999, you get a $1000 tax rebate back from the federal government, and my state (louisiana (we dont have e85 pumps) offers another $1500 rebate check back also.

Unit will end up costing : $7499 + delivery

The company also offers carbon coupons to help make the price under $1.00 a gallon.

For me getting raw sugar is pretty easy. I live in louisiana near sugar plants.

The unit produces 35 gallons in 5-7 day period. When I was running e85 I was getting 16mpg. That would make a total of 560 miles a week. Which would be awesome for me, its like running race gas ALL the time.

it may not be financially worth it for EVERYONE but remember guys, E98 yields the power of C16 race gas which is 15$+ per gallon. If they could just get it to make more then 35 gallons a week, this thing would be golden. I know we'd buy one for the shop and have ALL of our customers running it. it would only cost us 7000$. business owers get a 30% tax rebate

For units purchased and installed in the U.S., the federal government offers business owners a 30% tax rebate, and individual non-business owners a $1,000 rebate, to offset the purchase price of qualifying alternative fuel products.

Yes, depending on your state. Most states have rebates also.

I am going to purchase one once they become available.

E85 does not produce anywhere near the power of C16. Granted, the difference is small enough that justifies the $12 less a gallon cost.

I like the idea seeing i dont have e-85 stations in my area at all yet. But again thats if i had the money up front. My home address is a business address so i would use that to gain the extra rebate also and check with my state.

Maybe who knows what will happen with the price if the demand gets high maybe the'll drop it but probably not.

Do you have any data to back this up?

i also read this. they say that you could also use like left over beers to make it. i guess if you know a bar you could get the left overs for free.
