Ignition amplifier needed when using E85

Just wondering if people are finding the need to use a cop set-up or add'l amplifier regardless of turbo size/boost pressure w/ E85?

From my experience all Evo's react differently but just trying to get an idea.

I believe Lucas English runs the SparkTech COP.

Anyone else have something to share?

Not needed. I'm running 28psi with copper plugs gapped at 0.020". Works like a charm!

That said, would it "work" even better with more spark? Perhaps. I'd love to see an E85 shop do some back-to-back tests on ignition options.

The CDI is very nice but not needed like Jim said. I used run 33psi spikes on stock ignition at .019-.020 gap with no problems. The only things is I was putting plugs in the car ever 1000mi or so depending on how I drove it. With the the CDI I have yet to put new plugs in running a .022 gap.

Is this on the IX turbo? I had always heard that 28psi was the magic number. Is there really any extra power to be had at higher psi? At what psi does the power actually begin to level off?

Thanks...

Yes its a IX turbo. At the track it spikes 28psi and falls to 24psi. On the street the same setting will spike 33psi in the 3-5k range.

You will get more peak torque and a little more area under the curve 4k to 6k or so. Up top the peak hp will be about the same as it can only flow so much there.

IS 0.020 the gap? I have mine gapped at 0.024. My car does have an XS engineering ignition amplifier installed by the previous owner...

the gap is very dependent on what turbo you're running, bigger turbo's like 35-37r move a lot of air and you tend to have more of a need for COP or an ignition amp.
