E85 boost question

I am having my 9 tuned to E85. Has basic bolt ons exhaust, intake, ic pipe, mbc injectors, two 255 pumps. I just had the car tuned it maxed 27lbs. Running 21 now. I want it to have as much power as possible while still being reliable. Anyone have a recommended amount of boost I should run with E85 on a 9 turbo?

Depends on a few other things really. But, you typically cant push a IX turbo past 35psi without it blowing/failing.

And with that said, you'll probably be fine running 30-33psi on it. On my stock turbo I was at 31psi with 93+meth.

See what your tuner says.

Yea I will but I like to have a good idea before I go there you know. Running 30lbs is safe with a stock motor on E85?

Anything over 25-26 psi is likely to stretch the head studs and test your head gasket on a stock block. If this is your daily driver I recommend you keep it below 26 psi for reliability.

you should be able to run up to around 30psi no problem on stock headstuds as long as the tuner is good with e85. the stock 8/9 turbo is gonna have a quick spike and taper so its not a solid boost curve or anything.

I've ran up to around 36 spikes on stock headstuds on large stock frame turbos lots of times with no head lifting. if you want a piece of mind get arp studs.

Yes, as long as your tuner is good with tuning E85 you should be fine.

Well I am planning on installing cams and studs this coming spring, but I want to convert to ethanol this january. So I'll be safe running 25lbs as a daily driver on E? Also, I've read that some people have trouble starting their cars on cold days...is this true? I'm from Buffalo and its going to get really cold here next month.

I am tuned for 28lbs on e85. Occasionally spikes 30-31lbs in you mash the gas in a specific gear. I would suggest upgrading your cams, they really help out a lot up top when the stock turbo goes into a coma.

I'd waiting til I installed the cans and head studs before converting to e85. No sense in paying for multiple tunes. And the cold start problems can be fixed via a tune if the tuner knows how to do it.

Well I'm gonna order Kelford 272's, APR studs, and how about FIC 1250's? Running E85 I'm hoping this will get me at least 400 stallions reliable daily driver at 25ish lbs?

I run my car at 31-32psi all the time. For the road track I turn it down to 20-22psi. If I wanted to ensure safty and make my parts last as long as possible I would not run more than 28psi(400/400 dj).

30+psi I think is just to much power for the street. That sould be 450+tq on a decent setup. You are just spinning through 1st and 2nd on the street.
