you more than likely have a ecutek flash that has locked your ecu. I am not sure if there is any other way to use ecuflash on it other than haveing the ecutek flash removed by the place that flashed it

When you first open the rom, either when you read it, or first time you open it... Generally it will say when you step through what the ECUID is, the only problem is it tells you AFTER you select a definition to match it to, not before.. It should tell you before so you can find a close match.. BUt thats what you have to do.. get the ECUID from the rom, then find a definition..

Well, ECUFlash is also capable of locking the Rom.. theres an initialization code selection under advanced settings.. So any tuner can lock the ECU if they wanted to.. Another trick is for them to tamper with the ECUID so its difficult to match the rom to a definition..

What's the connection between the init code in the ROM and the init code ECUFlash sends to the ECU. What happens if the init code in the ROM is changed?

Then you will end up with a locked ECU that you'll have to unlock..

Sorry - could you expand?

Perhaps we are talking cross-purposes...

There has been much talk about ECU's being 'locked', I'm talking about about the UK FQ for example, which requires a different init sequence to get the ECU to respond.

The init code represented in the ROM does not match the init string used by ECUFlash to 'poke' the ECU into responding. If I change the init code in the ROM and flash back to my car what would be the effect? How exactly would you 'unlock' such a change?

Easy solution.. Once you get the rom out with ECUFlash and the ECU Unlocker, load the rom and change its init code from whatever it is, to 0001 and it'll be unlocked from then on out.. Save that original code though should you need to restore it. (also back up your original unmodified map)

Hey Noogles, any update on the detailed description of each function?

I'm somewhat curious as well.
Getting a wideband in a few days and want to tune an almost stock car...but it's rather difficult when you don't know what some of the adjustment maps actually do.

You think its hard enough figuring out the maps that are already labeled? I've spent the past 2 days documenting EVERY 2 and 3d map in my ECU, only we only have named/found function for 1/3 of them.. And that doesnt even take into account the parameters that show up strewn about within the code which doesnt happen to have a marker indicating that its a data value (from looking at the hex files)

But this was done for a reason.. I am writing an application that automatically extracts all of the map data addresses and dimensions and memory locations.. I'm hoping I can find some consistency in the order the maps appear and can easily create definitions for any map that may turn up.

I think it would be a good idea to create some wikipedia pages for some common topics. i.e. and extend off these...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Board_Diagnostics
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...gnition_system
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air-fuel_ratio
