Thanks man. I'm hooked already.

Am I blind or is there no info on actually writing the flash to the ecu? Maybe once I have the cable and am using it I will see the light?

Edit: I see it now.. needs to be hooked up before the button works

If im already flashed with ecutek, and I got the ecuflash cable and software, would I just be re-writing the ecutek tables? Would it work fine?

I would try "Backing up" your ECU to see if you can get a rom off it (it will probably be unreadable though) before you attempt to do ANYTHING.. The license for the ECUTek is embedded in your rom, and (from what I'm told) its paired to your ECU.. AFAIK anything gets changed, it won't work, but I don't know anything more, nor have I experimented with it. The only thing I do know is if you do sucessfully download the image, you won't be able to do anything with it except save it as a backup..

The big problem is getting your immobilizer code.. Without it, anything you might flash over it (should you want to throw away the ECUTek license) won't work anyway.. So you'd have to get your Immobilizer reprogrammed if there is no code to be had.

On and to be very very clear.. ECUTek does not allow this in their licensing, and overwriting the ECU Essentially REMOVES the ECUTek license perminently.

Until someone tries to back up their ECUTek flash and restore it, I would NOT ATTEMPT to do anything. You would not be altering ANYTHING related to ECUTek with this software and cable..

I tried to read the code off of my EcuTek flashed ECU. It would not connect. I believe that I read that some "new" code is placed on on the ECU by the EcuTek flash that doesn't allow the ECUFlash to communicate with it. I just wish I could get the immobilizer code so I could play around with the 2nd ECU that I bought.

I'm really bummed out about the whole non-readable, non-removeable EcuTek thing.

Yeah it must change the "bootstrap initialization" code.. if you could get it to bootstrap you could ultimately read whats on it, regardless of whether its useful info or not (decodable)

I have a problem with ANY Product that doesn't allow the enduser to do what he wants.. From putting a lock code on a standalone, to only providing software for a piggyback/standalone to authorized tuners, to early reflashing technology (before you could do it yourself) I just do not trust what most tuners do.. Most are hacks and I would prefer to see what I'm getting...

I've been staring at this program for an hour and it made no sense to me until now. Awesome write up.
