ecuflash cables, maps?
ecuflash cables, maps?
ive been playing around on the forums lately because i will soon be upgrading from a g35 coupe to an 06 evo mr in a matter of weeks.
One thing im going to want to do right out of the box is a flash. Ive been reading about these cables for $89, that allow the user to flash his/her own car. Can anyone shed some light on this? how hard is this? where can i learn how to do this?
Also where does one get these maps to flash our evo with?
I searched around and couldnt find much info on this subject. Can any of you guys point me in the right direction with some links? thanks in advance, im looking foreward to being part of the evo forums.

I am in the same boat.... the cable is called a Tactrix cable. As been reccomended to me...take a datalog (get a wide band a/f meter for accurate logging) run with your car...(evoscan, datalogger, etc..). Then email that datalog, and a current list of mods to a tuner (lots of tuners here). The tuner emails you back the flash, and you reflash your ecu (using the cable) and your laptop..
well if you cruise the Ecuflash forum there is a Ecuflash Beginners lesson posted by Speed element that does a step by step on how to use the cable, software, and some important keys that you would need to know. Maps, are supplied by venders and the price varies but usually starts of at $50 dollars for a base flash and gets upwards of $200 for a more custom map. ONE ADVICE IS NOT TO POST OTHER VENDERS MAPS ON THE FORUM BECAUSE JUST LIKE YOU THE VENDERS DO CRUISE THE FORUMS AND IT JUST NOT GOOD MANNERS TO SHARE vENDERS KNOWLEDGE.
Dynoflash, TTP Engineering, Jestr are three I can think of offhand.. I have had experience with their products, and you really can't go wrong as long as you do your research.. There are QUITE a few others that do this sort of thing, just search around a bit before making your decision.
Currently almost EVERY tuner is using ECUFlash over most of the other tools out there.. only many prefer to do custom dyno tunes.
Even though ECUFlash/OpenPort Cable (aka Tactrix cable), Mitsulogger/Evoscan, Data Log Lab, and a wideband are the tools you need to do it yourself, I would recommend starting out with a tune or basemap from one of the tuners. But I would encourage you to learn to fine-tune it yourself, in time it gets easier to do yourself as you spend time doing it, and its immensely rewarding.

ok guys, that is exactly what i wanted to know, thank. So i should purchase a base map from a vendor, but i have a new question now. I know you say learn to tune on my own, it gets easier, but i have read the begginers tutorial and its confusing as hell. Is there any other literature on ecuflash tunning, thanks
