No excel is not needed but it would help. You also need a wideband which is supported by one of the logger programs. I think they only support widebands with serial data streams.

EvoScan outputs the logs in CSV (Comma Separate Values). Excel is just a convenient program to open and view the logs in.

You don't need a wideband to use the programs. Just that with a wideband you can monitor the AFR and make sure the car isn't running too lean (or rich) . So its a very good tuning aid and if you get serious you shouldn't tune without one.

Notepad. but that will be very hard to read.

Download the free OpenOffice Suite (search for it) and use its spreadsheet program in place of excel.

Also, EvoScan .99 has a handy graphing feature that works well. Some people just use that instead of Excel. I use excel because it's faster for me to locate knock conditions.

Someone mentioned Open Office which could be a solution. I've never used the spreadsheet side of it, but I use it for .doc files at work all the time. It works fairly well.

http://www.dataloglab.com/

Use Dataloglab for your viewing pleasure.. It is free to try for 30 days.

Also, if you're already paying for Evoscan.. it has a built in graphing feature. Although, it is not quite as in depth as DLL's...

Cheers

I thought road tuning could be done without a WBo2 as long as it was conservitively done and things such as EGT and knock sum were kept in check. If I'm wrong please let me know.

Yeah what the others say even though honestly...Open Office and many other programs open CSVs but because of what I work on I would say buy Excel for the WIN!!! .

Yes it can be done...but why wouldn't you want to check the AFRs and ensure you really aren't running right on the edge?
