You should try this same test at 26psi. At 20psi the stock intake worked great for me but once I started using alchy I was able to sustain higher boost longer with a conical filter.

my car got a lot quieter, but i am not running a maf either, so all the help is needed.

i think the maf acts as a muffler too, subduing all the bov noise.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead. I followed this thread and I know
most of you said it wasn't worth it for the most part because of sucking in hot
engine bay temps. Did anyone that did the testing have an aftermarket intercooler or was everyone stock? I was wondering if the gains would be greater if you had a bigger more efficient intercooler. Any thoughts?

I don't know what made you think some of us were just running the open filter, but my intake temps are fine with my cardboard box. Use whatever you want to block off the hot engine bay air...most of the temp problems go away anyway once the car starts moving.

I have tested two Evos that use an open element filter w/o a box. Both of them lowered IAT by about 2-3* during WOT. The stock airbox, however, has consistently lowered IATs by an average of 8*. I have one log where the stock airbox lowered IATs by 13*. But that was just one isolated case.

An open element filter does not become necessary until 400 whp or 350 whp on a Mustang dyno. If you have bolt-ons and cams, the stock airbox is fine.
