How To Tune an Evo
I Just got my Evo 9 tuned and I was dissapointed in the numbers. dyno dynamics dynamometer. whp was 281.6 and torque 298. seems a little low. I have a injen intake, nisei fmic. uicp and lower incp, perrin high flow cat. perrin downpipe. hks ti carbon exhaust. manual boost controller, and deatschwerks 750cc injectors walboro 255lph 22psi. when they were done tuning I started my car to leave and it was knocking. found out they injectors they just installed 2 of them were loose. could this have effected the tuning thus less horsepower? my cousin has the same exact set up minus the injectors, tuned at the same place and has 337 whp and 365 torque. any suggestiions? boost leak?

ummm wrong forum and definetly the wrong thread
Nice write up! Thank you for putting so much effort into this. This has really gotten my curiosity peaked. I dont know how much i would ever do with tinkering with the maps but im definetely going to start logging some data to see whats going on
That's the best way to start; just a bit of logging to get yourself familiar with all the concepts related to tuning, and when you make changes, start small. When in doubt, ask questions!
for the most part, yes, ignore the exact value references as they are irrelivant, but the methods and the way you go about it will be very similar
for example, we dont have to worry about Long term fuel trims because our car is f**king amazing

Thanks again for taking the time to write that all up! It looks so complicated and after hours of reading, I just don't understand how to correctly change numbers without ruining my engine. Leave it to the pro's I guess...
Wow makes me wanna buy a X just for that reason. I've been fighting with fuel trims for three weeks now.
My pro tuner took about two hours to get the fuel trims right after scaling my injectors. The scaling only took about two minutes. He said that in order to get all the fuel trims as close to exact as possible you must allow the ecu to cycle between idle and cruise trims several times to make sure it's consistent. If that makes any sense. And for what it's worth I went from stock injectors to PTE 1200's and my car idles great, cold and hot starts great and I could not be happier with how it runs. Jay at Boosted Tuning in Chico, Ca. FTW!!
If you have the correct injector settings already and the vehicles setup doesn't require any 'special instance' adjustments it only takes one 16 minute cycle to confirm the trims are within range. You'd be surprised how many so called 'Pro Tuners' out there just throw in some settings they found online and never cycle the car to even see if they are correct.

That is generally how it goes.
