I agree that we need to find a way for additional outputs from the ECU.

Now that the ECU can do SOOO much we really need more then just one little CEL light for communication.

I don't really know all that much about electronics but if we only have one output (the CEL light), can we rig up some kind of circuit to this out so that we can do more with it. For example maybe there is some kind of circuit that we can build which would connect to the CEL light output and based on the frequency of the flashes to the CEL circuit, it could light up any one of several different color LED's.

Lets say you have low knock the CEL would flash 3 times a second, and this would be interpreted by a circuit which would illuminate a yellow LED. Then if there is higher knock you can flash the CEL 5 times a second, again picked up by the circuit which illimunated the yellow light but also a buzzer too. Finally if the AFR leans out you can light up a red LED lets say.

I don't know if this is possible but I imagine it as one way to do more with a single output.

Of course none of this is really needed if we can find another output.

This sounds like a great idea. I would definately be interested! Whats the best way to sync your wideband with the ecu?

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ec...ial-cable.html

this will work on most all widebands that have a linear analog output....

search for threads by mrfred in this section. He has a couple posts about connecting wideband to your ECU.

Oil light flash

that'll get everyones attention for sure

If we can do a configurable NB input as well, and I can supply 2 years of NB data vs WB output

I think this is a great idea, if you can hook up a few L.E.D's you would prevent any furthur damage if something were to go wrong. And L.E.D's are really cheap anymore and you can fit them almost anywhere, there is even some room in the gauge cluster for a few

This does sound like a great mod to add. I would think we'd want some other type of response rather than the check engine light -- because my brain, along with many others, has been hardwired to see knock that way. If there was a way to have these mods output to LED's that would be sweet. Knock would be a red light, afr a blue light etc. That way we could still keep the slow/fast blinking (which kicks ***) but have more than 1 parameter.

It's a good idea. I have this with Zeitronix warning light/beeper now, but for those unfortunate to not have the ZT-2, it's a good option to have.

Does anyone know which lights on the cluster can be controlled by the ECU. I know there is water spray but that is not on many USDM cars.

What about other unused, or unnecessary, outputs on the ECU.

what about taking the AC trigger? coding the "light" that activates the AC to be routed into the car and hooked up to a external source "shift light" or wired under a unused light in the cluster.

I am already using my defroster in the rear as a bottle heater activation. pretty ironic people think. This idea came to my mind because I was thinking about making my AC button my Nitrous intercooler sprayer bar activation.

I got my buddy to rig up the "play" button on his steering controls for his Camaro to his nitrous purge

On a similar note, i know the romraider for the subaru uses the rear defrost to stop and start logs. Anything feature i think is pretty neat.
