its more of a safety/warning system.

I had a friend that blew his intake hose off and ran on the track lean and then proceeded to lunch his motor... he didn't know - this would have saved him.
Now if you could just get the stock ECU to run off the MAP sensor instead of the MAF sensor he would have been ok, as long as his tune was good.

I understand that you want to be able to tell what sort of condition it is.

However I have to disagree, the fast knock should denote that something bad is happening and you MUST get of the TPS. so whether its bad knock or bad AFR the end result is still the same.

I agree with you on that one tephra!

That is the way I use my fast CEL.... if I see that it flashes more than expected... I am off the TPS.

I'm not really disagreeing but looking at it more as a tool. Bad knock & 250 miles from home probably means the last tank of gas was bad - so drive nice. Bad AFRs and 250 miles from home means I really have a problem & need to look into this right now...

Now that I think about it more.........

For those that don't use the stock BCS you can use the BCS output to set a light or buzzer. You can set up the parameters of boost control such that the wastegate is always 100% (off). When tephras code kicks in it will drop it to 0% (wastegate on). This would set the light/buzzer or whatever you wanted

I think a lot of people are using ecu controlled boost so that output is no good. What about the EGR though

Good thinking Dan.

well either way you need to limp home - stay off boost then get a laptop and do some logs to see what the problem is.

Those of use who have ecu boost will experience a nice cut in boost that will wake us up real fast something isn't right.

Actually, this is the exact reason why my map switching "switch" is still my laptop.

Thank gosh I have a "small switch" of an eePC.

I still use the EGR I'm using it to increase the cruising gas mileage by running a LOT of EGR to reduce pumping losses. However, I won't cry if I have to delete it.

Going lean would/is a very rare occurrence. It is deserving of something invasive so that if it is a bright day, on a racetrack, with your helmet on. you'll know when the BCS goes to wastegate pressure. Also at 12psi (wastegate pressure) you really won't hurt the motor by going lean. If I am truly lean, and code is perfect every time, I WANT WANT WANT the car to pull out as much boost as possible. At 12psi, even going mid 13's AFR, you really aren't going to hurt anything.

If your going lean, and you put a stupid blinkey light in front of me while I'm carving corners in my favorite backroad, I'll be running 25psi for 12 minutes till I realize their is a problem. I won't have seen the flashing light, instead I'll pull the car over when I notice that smoke is coming from the engine bay.

At any rate, I like the slow/fast for different amounts of knock. When tuning I'll pay attention to the CEL and let out if it goes to fast knock (6 counts on my car) as compared to slow flash (1 count).
I agree with cutting boost since it would be way more invasive than a flashing CEL.

With stock closed loop setting i get about 25-26 mpg on the highway. I am pretty happy with that gas mileage. Then again i haven't taken a long road trip with the egr shut off.

I carry my full size laptop with me everyday, it gives me comfort for some reason - I try to leave it at home but that voice says "you better take it because when you don't have it you will need it".

I think one of these days I will invest in one of those small pc's, very handy it would be.

Should I make it so that high-knock induces boost drop as well?

Or only AFR out of range?
