Evo 8 ECU in my 2g DSM, help please!
guys if u are having trouble reading and flashing --- u can only have about 6 or 7 bad connections --- u need two or three main power wires = two or three main grounds - ignition wire -- and two datalinks == pin 62 goes from ecu to the obd cable and is the data wire and pin 79 goes to the white separate connector which is the init wire basically.. is everyone hooking up the tactrix cable on the obd2 port or another way??
Yes, but after you have checked all those connections and you still can't reflash, and you have confirmed that the ECU and Tactrix cable are good what do you do?
I have converted over 10 cars to Evo 8 ECUs but the current one is just giving me trouble.
This car has a SAFC installed. I am wondering if there is a bad ground where the SAFC is installed, but when I check for continuity I don't see a problem.

problems
if ur sure the ecu and cable work that only leaves connections between the cable and ecu and between the ecu and ignition wire.. could be obd port is wires are loose or damaged... did u run the datalog cables straight from ecu to tactrix cable? i had to do it to eliminate problems.. that seems the only thing left to do -- u must run a few power and grounds to the cable and the two datalog wires.
if the evo 8 ecu flashes and reads in another car its got to be the wiring... I have tried my tactrix cable on 1 95 gst and it didnt read , I tried it on 2 seperate 95 gsx's it didnt read as well , I tried it on a 97 gsx and it wouldnt read , which leads me to the conclusion that there is something not wired right on those style obd2 ports , I have made a bench harness and can get ecu's to read and flash all day long, I will be doing this swap shortly to a 96 eclipse spyder and will probably have to rewire the obd2 port and wire in a flash connector...

to the op i had the same problem when i did the swap the second time in my second car and it turned out that it was a blow fuse .. if your interior light doesnt come on then thats it (that was the fuse that blew for me). check all the fuses in the engine bay and next to the clutch pedal.
ok I just finished the swap on a 96 mitsubishi eclipse spyder gs 2.4 4g64 engine these are the changes that have to take place...
91 black silver dot remove
87 yellow red stripe remove
79 add pin for flash connector
58 white silver stripe remove
46 none to remove
43 none to remove
42 none to remove
39 none to remove
34 none to remove but moved pin 21 here
32 none to remove but moved pin 20 here
22 green silver stripe original swap the pin 8 wire to this spot
21 green black stripe silver original but moved this pin to 34 open
20 green brown stripe silver original but moved this pin to 32 open
16 none to remove
8 white red stripe swap the pin 22 wire into this spot
additional stuff I had to do
added pin 82 for ignition +12v there was none on my 96 eclipse spyder gs 2.4 4g64 ( without this my car would crank but wouldn't start)(I previously tested this ecu in my 02 mitsubishi Lancer es (4g64 swap running evo 8 ecu) I already flashed all the same settings I used from my 4g64 swap. I'm exciting so now I have a 3rd gen 4g64 and a 2nd gen 4g64 both running similar settings only difference is rom files there running, the 2nd gen is running all 2nd gen sensors and the 3rd gen is running all 3rd gen sensors...
Next I tried data logging it wouldn't work , so I started testing wires . if you remove the white clip where the wires go into the obd2 port you will see that it is labeled 1 thru 8 then 9 thru 16.
ecu pin 56 (yellow silver dots) goes to pin 1 on the obd port (tested good)
ecu pin 62 (pink silver dots) goes to pin 7 on the obd port (tested good)
obd2 pin 1 goes to pin 56 on the ecu (tested good)
obd2 pin 4 goes to gound (tested good)
obd2 pin 5 goes to ground (tested good)
obd2 pin 7 goes to pin 62 on the ecu side (tested good)
obd2 pin 16 goes to +12v (wasn't getting any voltage) cut wire entirely and spliced +12v
this fixed my data logging issue so now I have obd2 port functionality and can datalog.
was getting a cel after intial startup as well info below p1603
the fix I found was there was no +12v to ecu pin 80 cut and splice a +12v in
now before I finish up soldering and tidying up I need to know the following, does obd2 pin 16 need constant +12v or a switched +12v does ecu pin 80 need constant +12v or switch +12v. srs light what causes that to trip cause its on and wont go away. On both my lancer and my eclipse at idle the tps show 13.33333 does anyone know why that is. btw the car was idle serging before bouncing between 1000-2000 and now that is gone on the new evo ecu car seems to be running alot smoother no idle serging.
I'm running the 96530006 rom flashed into it because the rom mine came with didn't have much support. I would like to the SD speed density patch on both my lancer and my eclipse but I still need to do some more digging and research before that takes place...
