Wow, sorry to hear it bro. Glad you lived to learn from it. I've piled the lancer into a mustang on track and that wasn't fun either. If you stay in the sport long enough you will total a car. I've come to realize and accept it. I tell all my students the same thing. S'gonna be alright man.

The conversion can be done. He would have to drill all the spot welds in the firewall and transfer all parts. it is a lot of work but can be done. look at all the RDH tegs and civics here.

I dont know about the details of the event, but I went to an open track day this weekend and talking with the lead instructor about insurance as it relates to the track. He said, basically it is considered an advance driving school, and is possible for the insurance to cover it. It is not a "racing" event as long as time is not being taken, and there is not a "start" or "finish." Now in reality, Im pretty sure it would be a heck of a battle to get the insurance company to cover something that happens at the track, but it might be worth looking into....
