I thought it wouldn't happen especially since I didn't push it hard. I liked how it drove except for the surge before 4000 RPM in high gears, which stopped me getting one for my own engine.

2) High boost pressures and the stock oil line can cause the thrust bearing to fail

So on both points it looks like i'm in the good. I don't run the car hard enough to get EGT's into the danger zone and my boost pressures are relatively low. Since the ultimate goal for this car is a move into e85 I plan on keeping my order for the upgraded oil line and the e85 should lower the EGT's at the higher boost.

None of that is a recipe for high EGTs, but the Red failed nonetheless, don't know the cause yet, not inspected, but there is excessive play on the bearing, exhaust was smoking, didn't look like overspeed on the compressor wheel apparently as it hadn't bent/filed the blade tips.

i paid 560 for the rebuild from FP.
This is all pretty interesting information considering that I'm right on the brink of either purchasing the FP Red or HTA35r. I suppose as time goes on, more light should be shed on this topic. On one hand it appears that as long as you keep temperatures under a certain threshold the turbo should be fine. And then on the other hand, it looks like there is ultimately an issue that needs to be hammered out. I really like what the Red has showed it can do but I don't have the financial overhead if something drastic were to happen to my car once it is installed. FP charged $500 or so for a rebuild but IMO it wasn't the car owner's responsibility. I'm no lawyer though but I know I'd be pretty heated. I went to the FP website just to see how much everything will cost (without tax) for the Red, install kit, and fuel line and it was just shy of $2,100. IMO, I'd feel more comfortable purchasing an HTA35r kit for about $3,900 shipped for the added peace of mind. I wonder if FP would start to offer the upgraded fuel line at no charge for all future Red purchases. I guess that's just wishful thinking. Oh well, I'll continue to monitor threads in the coming days/months.

When I contacted FP via email I forgot to mention they started doing that with their kits already since th beginning of the year. I happened to purchase the kit before that so here i am adding the oil line.

Ordered up a set of 1450 FIC's e85 here we come!

I'm planning on 28psi with e85 open here to suggestions for other parts.

You might need a double pumper or inline fuel pump. Walbro runs out of steam at around 450 hp on e85.

I'll wait till i get there I don't mind turning the boost down if i can get toward 450whp which is my planned max on this motor.

Holy smokes e85 RULES!

I'm making about the same power on 21psi e85 vs 25psi on 91 octane.

The 4000-5500 is still a "troubled" range but it is definitely accepting much more timing now without knock being a pain. I'm posting a log after 3 quick pulls and tunes. I probably have more timing i can run but i'm content with the easy power increase.

Bigger injectors are seriously needed i'm maxing the crap out of 880cc's with wastegate boost!

lol you are running a FPred on E85 with 880's? lol

Don't be surprised if you gain 80+ whp over 91 on E85 with the red. (with proper injectors of course)

btw lean it out more.

I know but its just too awesome to stop!

I did check my logs against wastegate boost and then compared the injector duty cycle. I knew it would be close but safe. 96% duty with 11.2 AFR I think its safe so far assuming i don't get a massive spike. Now soon as my uber injectors get here I'll turn up the boost

I need to find a dyno around here I don't want to get this engine above the 500whp mark and blow it to bits

11.2 is just starting on E85.

Noise will clear up and it will accept more timing

This is just tank 1 too I wanted to be extra safe

I expect the 1 gallon or less of fuel i had left is playing just a little with knock resistance.

Just a quick update:

FP oil line with filter installed injectors are sitting at home so they will be installed tonight with the hope of running 25psi or better

I think i'll need to keep a close eye on the power being made don't want to over do it and end up with engine repair

holy god the scaling i had to set these to in order to make my fuel map work is just really low. Currently my scaling is 843 and that gets me really close to the AFR's I was seeing with my other injectors .

Idle is kinda rough I'm not sure why either. The SFT is showing it adding fuel at idle and close to idle so i think my latency is just a little off +5% or so.
