FP Red is FUN

This turbo rocks I'm still tuning this turbo but even with a very limited amount of time spent on just making the turbo work I can already tell that the car is much faster.

Boost is up and knock is lower despite the increased boost pressures.

Right now the boost is hovering around the 25psi mark but i think a couple pounds of boost could be had but i wont go there until I get this 25psi tuned to its potential.

I'm posting a log for you guys to see the wild progress. Full log here I do my own tuning so I don't really care if you see the timing on 91 octane.

Nope the car has never been on a dyno just using road tuning and evoscan to do road dyno plots for comparison. I think there is an AWD around here somewhere and i may rent it out for a few hours to see what she can make

well thats cool. i currently have a fp green brand new and never go the chance to drop her in... so i was planning on selling her for a fp red and buying a meth kit, and see what she puts down.

In looking at your log....you have a lot of room to tune for more power. The negative timing and rich "10" AFRs at the top of spool can be fixed up quite a bit.

Yeah I'm hoping I can eek quite a bit more out of it. Really whats interesting here is that its much faster despite the lack of tuning and as your pointed out rich AFR's and low timing.

I do expect timing to be a little lower than you guys are used to due to the 91 octane when all is said and done.

Your spool on it looks great.

I was super impressed when I put on my green. It made more power without a tune.....just like you and your red. Now with my revolver cams and ported head.....holy crap....400hp is so easy on pump 93.

Thanks I tweak with this tune some more and post up a log in a couple days. I don't know how much timing i can get out of it but we will see. 91 octane is pretty horrible stufff lol

haha i was laughing no offense just because i prefer adding timing as opposed to boost on my VIII turbo and my car likes timing much more. 8* peak timing on 23 psi im at 15-16* peak timing at 18.5psi at redline. on same **** gas you have. and with absolutely no knock wat so ever. just spend some more time tuning that beast. im sure you'll get it fast as hell soon enough or just run some meth or join E85 crew im still debating since i picked up a IX turbo today haha

I hope you don't consider this log a finished product I just got the turbo in a couple days ago. Tuning is pretty much non existent on this run.

I'm not sure how you could have run 8 degrees timing at peak torque anything higher than 3-5 degrees here and it would knock up a storm on the stock turbo. I was running similiar boost to you during those times as well.

As far as the decision to run more boost well its simple and in 2 parts. First this turbo's efficiency range is higher up than the stocker so to get the most out of the turbo I'll need to turn the boost up. Secondly now that I have a much larger FMIC its safer to run up the higher boost levels, all in all I should get a better VE on the motor by running it this way.

Leaning out the tune and upping the timing today I'll probably have a log by lunch time and maybe an even better one after work.

One of the things i like about this turbo i wasn't expecting is the turbo actually has that low turbo whistle noise when starting to spool up. It makes the car sound even meaner now lol!

The only Red I've tuned has failed. Warranty inspection awaited. Lots of people reporting FP Green and now Red failures in the UK, not clear why it is happening, there are not the same number of stories about stock turbos and GT3x tuned by the same people in the same way. I thought it wouldn't happen especially since I didn't push it hard.

I liked how it drove except for the surge before 4000 RPM in high gears, which stopped me getting one for my own engine.
