Apparently the forced pass will have to improve to include a forced CVN value to continue to be a viable option for folks.
It’s not just about the forced pass issue though, right? Ignoring the OBD monitor issue (which the forced pass was designed to address), it sounds like any modification to the ECU (like a basic tune which nearly every Evo owner has) is going to trigger a CVN fail. So this seems like an issue for nearly everyone.

Curious to know (1) if someone can confirm that CA is now checking CVN values during a regular smog (my last smog was in June 2018 and they obviously weren’t then) and (2) whether the CVN values can be manipulated through a tune.

Reverting to a factory flash is a non-starter for most people, particularly those with cams.

Theoretically you could code it to return what ever CVN you wanted to just like monitor status etc.

Seconded. It certainly seems possible since people are doing it for other OEMs. For example, BMW: https://chiptuningtools.net/index.ph..._article_id=11

If someone wants to teach me, I'll take the time to do it I don't even need it any more, but it would be awesome to have a fix for everyone else.

I am casually learning embedded software engineering, it's not exactly a light subject lol. I find these youtube channels to be especially good.

Use whatever is acceptable for the year, not that hard.

05 only had 1
06 had 3, use the latest as that will be all TSB's.

I honestly cannot remember how many 03 and 04 had. Again, use whatever the latest TSB was when in doubt.

Good news. Mine is 05 so I can hit the easy button. But this all still means going back to completely stock, and having to drive the car the required miles for the monitors to register and pray to the new gods and the old gods that they ring in our favor. This might not be so easy for those who’s registration has lapsed.
