I agree....Experience is essential to tuning cars. I tell you there are times I miss sitting in the engine bay with a timing light and a couple screw drivers.

But with practice comes experience.

guys, lets not make this into a philosophical discussion on tuning and who shares and who doesn't. Like anything else, this is some peoples business. Some times small tricks are what make people money as it helps them stand out. I honestly understand why some people don't share. Just because we use open source tools doesn't mean we need everything we do to be open source. That said, i think everyone should contribute ($) to those that do enable us to do what we do.

Also, while reading forums isn't how you become a good tuner it is how you become a tuner. Yes, you need experience but no, you shouldn't venture into tuning without reading, a lot, before touching a car. That's what i did anyway.

Now... back to timing curves!!!

Here is my current timing map, it is not 100% done because I have been lazy for like the last 3 months, and have been focused on my Talon more than the Evo. It really only needs some smoothing since the car won't take much more timing. Mods are BR turbo back, BR air filter, MBC@24psi tapering to 20 or so, 93 oct, knock free. The only logs I can find are 2 from my 1/8mi. passes in Oct. I will log some 3rd gear pulls tomorrow and post them. Ran best of 7.92@89 in the 1/8th slow shifting and running out 3rd(6spd).

I don't like 0 degree timing at peak torque, it make my EGT high (on track). I prefer maintain at least 2-3 degree with minor knock which is alright.

doesnt the knock cause your timing to retard any way maybe not to 0 but to 1 by like a degree or so?? becase ive seen my car pull a degree on 2 knock one in a while and on 1 knock count aswell but very rarely...

I like 0 or -1 at peak, if not my car hates any more and knocks, messing up the rest of the pull... again it all goes back to what your car wants. When R/TErnie and I were doing the base tune on the red his car loves 11.6-11.7 afr, mine on the other hand likes it a tad richer like 11.4-11.5, it is amazing that just dropping the AFRs that little bit helped keep the motor that tad bit cooler to prevent knock...

Keep the boost low, you can get min 3-4 degree.

C'Mon No one has any other curves to post?

I have heard that the Evo 8 can take a lot of timing at peak load but not at top compared to Evo 9. Or is it the other way around?

Do you think that the car likes a richer tune because of the intercooler differences? OR do you think it can be a result of the cam selection??

It will only be available for 10 downloads so someone needs to host it if they would. Also before anyone gets the wrong idea about my last comment, I am not trying to say I am an artist. I meant that what happens happens and if it works it works

I realize this is an old thread, but I found it very interesting. Also does anyone have these maps that Aaron made available. I just like to compare.
