Also if paul happens to come back to this thread I saw something he posted on another thread about "Idle Stability timing control" and posted this table

<table name="Idle Stability Timing Control" category="Timing" address="174e" type="2D" level="2" scaling="uint16">
<table name="Settings" type="Static X Axis" elements="3">
<data>Sensitivity</data>
<data>Timing Limit</data>
<data>Untested</data>
</table>
</table>

You were saying something about raising the sensitivity from the stock 128 to 146... My idle is a bit more unstable now compared to how it was with more timing at idle. Maybe I should change that back as well. It was at 14* idle and not its 10 to 8* at idle.....

-ethan
Your idle was mostly affected by lowering your timing. Did you change the idle RPM as well???

The Idle Stability Timing Control table does exactly what is say.... stabilizes idle. At first we thought that raising the value helped.....I have since discovered, as you have, that idle does suffer a little if it is raised. Thus, I leave it at 128. The second value in the table will help if you are getting big swings in idle timing. Lowering it will tighten up those swings.

I noticed that. If I open up my stock ROM all of those blobits or bit or whatever they are, are 0040. Should just the 0xffa bit be changed to 0040 or all of them?

Also this is the stuff that Im talking about.. WHERE does it say how to do this? I mean this is the basics of how to setup the ROM for different cars so it MUST be discussed somewhere. If I understand whats going on with the changes that are made I feel more comfortable about making them. I dont like to do things "blind"

Thanks guys!

Its did start with the first one. (the one with only the one line changed) which was interesting because the ROM that paul sent me had all of those lines set to 0040.. and he is running with a 2003 as well it looks like.

Do you know where these ecu periphery's are defined?

Also the xml that paul gave me didnt have tables for the ECUPeriphery 7 interestingly enough. I havent tried his yet as the load tables are scalled to 320 and I didnt have time to put values in the 260-320 range.

side note: is there a certain number of times a ECU can be flashed? I wouldnt think so but I feel like a thread I read recently hinted at this...ideas? Thoughts?

Thanks

Because you only need to change address FFA thats why it started. Rescaling is easy to do, but just use the rom i sent since its scaled the same way the original tuner did it. i use up to 500 scaling on my big map rom and 360 on the v5 rom. Log some pulls when you get home and report back where the knock is here. And keep in mind lean spool is still enabled, because i feel the orig tuner never tampered with it, so i didnt want to effect your fuel map settings at this time.

an ecu can be flashed unlimited times.

Ive attached a log of a quick pull in 3rd. My office is in a very industrial area with a lot of other offices and I didnt want to create too much a scene outside running 3rd gear pulls up and down the main road.

So anyway knock is at max 3 counts during the 3rd gear pull.

Ive also attached a log of me driving back to work. you can see some of the weird knock readings that are out of boost and part throttle. see lines 1075,1614,1729
(I just graphed the knock sum and looked at where the high points were)

That 1075 has 14 counts on that one cell i think?

What do you think? Again this is still with the UTEC in I wont have that out of the equation till late tonight or tomorrow afternoon. Although the UTEC is on "bypass" mode (map 0).....

Ethan's car is almost stock. So, he is experiencing all of the common 03 stock problems. Tip in knock, rich as hell up top, p0300 etc.

We will get him fixed up. Too easy.
