This is a very rare, and new problem, I have updated the warning on my website and increased the presence of a "No Pin9" cable option. Made it a mandatory field when ordering now.

I did some testing on the following Cables: looks like you would have had the same issue regardless of cable choice.. all cables use the same design... including the latest openport 2.0 cable. (testing done with just the cable plugged into the vehicle, with the usb pc end left unplugged)

Tactrix Openport 2.0 cable pin9: 12.01 volts when plugged in. (cable revision from this week)
Tactrix Openport 1.3U cable pin9: 11.99 volts when plugged in. (2year old cable)
EvoScan Openport 1.3U cable pin9: 11.99 volts when plugged in. (2year old cable)
EvoScan Openport 1.3U cable pin9: 12 volts when plugged in. (cable from this month)
EvoScan Openport 1.3R cable pin9: 12.02 volts when plugged in.
EvoScan Openport 1.3D cable pin9: 0 volts when plugged in. (1.3D has no use for pin9 since its just a datalogging only cable, it doesn't do subaru reflashing.)

Subaru OBDII Pin9 pinout "SSM (Subaru Select Monitor) timing pulse"

ETACs pin9 - I'm wondering if pin9 is just a TTL 5volt pin on the Mitsubishi. Perhaps some models of ETACs can handle the 11volts but others can't.
http://www.evoscan.com/technical-veh...hi-diagnostics

How serviceable are those ETACS boxes, can you get into them at all? can you slice it in half? perhaps a few components have been fried by the 12volts? these parts might be replaceable.

There is talk in the Manual about a MUTII option that can reset an ETACS box.. according to the Evo Manual, a battery disconnect has no affect on the flash memory on these. http://www.evoscan.com/technical-veh...ishi-etacs-sws

5 vehicles so far affected by ETACS pin9 issue:
blackevo86 (2006 SE)
brdgstneengr (Evo9 SE)
eisen7 (JDM evo7)
hearnoevo (Evo9 SE)
dingus (06 IX MR)

I'll look into Google docs. I like referencing back to a picture file, so that it can be shown in the post as a full size image. Can that be done with a link to the file in Googe Docs? I'll mess around with it.

are you referring to the same information already posted as a link on post#16? or do you have more information? whats the pdf file name and page number?

OK, it looks like the link above that Hamish gave has some info, too. But, here are the pages in the SM that talk about the ETACS ECU as well:

Nice info in those docs. yeah I wonder if its some sort of ETACs diagnostic change mode or entry key system that needs to be reset. But what I read was that it appeared that it would default itself back to normal after 3 minutes anyway according to those docs you just posted.

Yeah, that's what I gathered as well between the information in your doc and what I posted. But, maybe between the two it gives people that are having the problem a few methods to test to resolve the issue.

Scratch that...the forums display linked pictures differently now.

(I was going to link to full size pictures here, so it's easier to read all in one place, but nevermind. Just use the links above.)

I'm almost positive that you can't, unfortunately. Stuff like that, I usually toss up on Imgur or TinyPic.

Add me to the list. I just received my cable and I have these same issues. I have an 06 IX MR.

EDIT: I had the cable plugged into the laptop. Plugged the cable into the car and turned on the ignition and the horn, blinker on steady and rear wiper like everyone else. The damn thing is(was) under warranty...I just wanted to do some datalogging with the option to flash it later (way later) down the road. If anyone has any info let me know...

Thanks for the additional info Hamish. Regarding servicing or repairing the ETACS unit itself, I am not sure. I figured it was quicker and easier to source a working (used) one so I can get back on the road. It may be that you can crack the case open and fix the internals if you know what you are doing.

If you want, I can send you my broken one for you to look at once I get the new one installed and working? PM me your details if you're interested.

I managed to get the ETACS module out and it has that smell like the magic blue smoke has been let out...

Welcome to our exclusive club Dingus

I'd say you're going to need a new ETACS ECU. Mine should be arriving today or tomorrow hopefully. Will swap it over and let everyone know how it went.

I have just pulled pin 9 from my Openport cable and ceremoniously smashed it with a hammer

Anyone know the Mitsu part number of the ETACS module? I have it sitting on my couch now but it doesnt seem to have a mitsu part number on it...? I could not find it on mitusbishiparts.com...

EDIT: Found something that says "alarm" for $312.04. Id hate to buy the damn thing and it turn out to be the wrong thing... The parts search doesn't return a part number which is a bummer...
