Tactrix 1.3 cable is not compatible with many mitsubishi's thats why your 1.3 cable worked fine, it is missing a pin1. it has to have pin1 for diagnostics mode and pin9 before the evo9SE etacs ecu will fry. pin1 is needed for ALL advanced mitsubishi diagnostics modes. pin9 is a piece of junk, and is only used for subaru reflashing.

the website? you mean this option shown here? the option that says not for evo9 SE.
sure, i can send the etacs unit once we find a replacement.

the owner was not aware that his car is an se (bought it used). since pin 9 can cause issues, it seems that its no longer safe to offer a universal option (at least until this is better understood). suggest cleaning up the pin options to:

- evo 7-9 (no pin 9)
- subie (pin 9)

also, your cable descriptions have conflicting info on compatibility with ecuflash.

I've connected other 1.3U cables w/ pin9 to my car before without an issue. I was under the impression it was a batch of cables which produced 12v on pin9 instead of 5v. Correct?

Ok well I guess my question just got confirmed..........dag nabit!!!!!! I was curious if this was just an issue happening with the IX SE's....well until Evomiz just posted. Im getting back from the sand box and excited about data logging and learning to tune on my own. I just picked up a limitless cable off another EVOM member. 05 Evo 8 SSL and Im guessing it would just be safer to remove pin 9 overall. This is real good info to know for alot of the guys wanting to crack into tuning..........

The openport cables are always 12v on pin9 for subaru reprogramming. I am investigating the cause considering I'm still using the same design and same silicon manufacturers. I am going to check the current on pin9 also, maybe too much current? Either way, I think it is the 'end of the line' for a combined universal evo7/8/9 & subaru cable. Even for those people purchasing for any model Evo9 and still selecting pin9 I've been sending these cables out with no pin9 for a while. I have been looking at the field called Primary Vehicle Type when the order is placed.

And I updated the products as per your suggestion mrfred.

I'm guessing that I have the same problem. Some background info.

Car: evo 8
cable: tatrix 1.3

issue:
car was on and running, cable not connected to computer. i plugged in the tatrix cable to the obII port and the car didnt like it. horn, alarm, blinkers, rear windshield wipers, and fluid started going off.

turned car off, disconnected battery and cable. removed tatrix
connected battery and left blinker light remains on and the rear windshield fluid is running. the car will crank and run. I'm guessing that the etas is messed up now and has to be replaced.

any help would be great. i'm on a very tight time. have an appointment with BR for work before shipping car to hawaii. thanks

Shouldnt be any special requirements other then recoding remote locking, pre evo x etacs (electronic time alarm control system) are globally coded meaning the coding file is loaded from the factory. Evo x on the other hand (now called electronic total automotive control system) as its a gateway ecu are locally coded meaning they are variant coded by the dealer when replaced depending on options (seat fabric sound system fog lights etc)

I finally got a ETACS took a couple months. I put it in and everything worked except the key fob. I called two dealers one wanted 50 and one wanted 100. I didn't want to pay that so I came up with a way to do it for free.

First make sure the ignition key is in the off position but still in there. Also make sure you have replaced the fuses that were taken out for the horn,wipers,turn signals.

Next use a jumper wire on pins 1 and 4 on the obd dig port.

Next press the hazard switch 6 times the doors will unlock and lock indicating it's in program mode. Hit a button on the remote and it will be programed. Much cheaper than the stealership and being a dsm owner to I LOVE to save money lol. Hope this helps

Derek

Oh and eve scan Can I ship this other etacs to see if you can fix it? So I can get some money back out of this?

I'm so happy to have turn signals again

hey blackevo86, I just came on here to post that info too.. I just got hold of an evo9 manual.

Registering Transmitter Keys with ETACs

Each individual secret code is registered inside the transmitter, and so it is necessary to register these codes with the EEPROM inside the receiver in the following cases.
•When the transmitter or ETACS-ECU is replaced
•If more transmitters are to be used
•If it appears that a problem is occurring because of faulty registration of a code.
A maximum of four different codes can be stored in the EEPROM memory (four different transmitters can be used). When the code for the first transmitter is registered, the previously registered codes for all transmitters are cleared. Therefore, if you are using four transmitters or are adding more transmitters, the codes for all transmitters must be registered at the same time.

HOW TO REGISTER SECRET CODE
1.Insert the ignition key into the key cylinder and check that the doors have been locked normally when the ignition key is turned.
2.Insert the ignition key into the key cylinder.
3a.Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position and then connect data link connector terminal 1 to ground.
3b.Connect the OBDII vehicle data link connector terminal 1 to ground (pin4 or pin5).
NOTE: Connecting terminal 1 of the data link connector to ground will put the system in secret code registration standby mode.
4.Push the hazard warning light switch six times within 10 seconds.
NOTE:
At this time the code registration monitor request is output and becomes registration mode (all doors locked and then all doors unlocked).
NOTE:
The hazard warning light switch is turned on and off alternately whenever it is pushed.
5.Press the transmitter button, and then press it two times within 10 seconds of the first press. This will register the code.
6.When registration is completed, the code registration monitor request is output (all doors locked and then all doors unlocked).
7.If you are using two or more transmitters or have added a second transmitter, the next transmitter should be registered within one minute after registering the code for the previous transmitter. The registration procedure is common for all the transmitter.
8.Registration mode will be canceled under the following conditions:
•When the secret code for four transmitters has been registered;
•When passing one minute after finishing the registration of all transmitters;
•When no secret codes have been registered for more than one minute after the registration mode is entered;
•When the data link connector terminal 1 to ground is disconnected;
•When the ignition key is removed from the ignition key cylinder;
9.After the registration is completed, carry out the following.
Turn the ignition switch to the "LOCK" (OFF) position and then disconnect data link connector terminal 1 from ground.
10.Disconnect data link connector terminal 1 from ground.
11.Remove the ignition key from ignition key cylinder.
12.Close all of the doors.
13.Verify the keyless entry system operates normally.

(1)connect the data link connector terminal 1 to ground.
(2)close the driver's side door.
(3)leave the windshield washer switch on for at least ten seconds. Then the etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound once.
2.if the transmitter "lock" button is pushed consecutively twice within two seconds, the etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound, indicating that the hazard answerback function can be enabled or disabled when the doors are locked.
•enable the hazard answerback function when the doors are locked: The etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound once.
•disable the hazard answerback function when the doors are locked: The etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound twice.
3.if the transmitter "unlock" button is pushed consecutively twice within two seconds, the etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound, indicating that the hazard answerback function can be enabled or disabled when the doors are unlocked.
•enable the hazard answerback function when the doors are unlocked: The etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound once.
•disable the hazard answerback function when the doors are unlocked: The etacs-ecu tone alarm will sound twice.
4.exit the hazard answerback customize mode by observing one of the following steps.
Caution
turn the ignition switch to the "lock" (off) position and then disconnect data link connector terminal 1 from ground.

I was re-reading this thread and noticed back on post #42 dingus noted that he got the typical dead component smell from his fried ETACS.

This often hapens when an electrolytic capacitor is over-voltaged. Hamish posted some nice ETACS pix with good detail, so I would be tempted to nominate C100 as a likley dead part.
This should not be too difficult to replace for a handy techo.
