MAP 2.4L + FP Green HTA + 93oct

Below are the unfinished results of a quick tune on 93octane with the following mods. We did not get to finish the results on 93oct, but these show the potential of the evo when the proper parts are combined and work well together. My two customers choose to work together and now this car is going to get an FP black instead of the FP green, so ill never get to finish the Green tune on this car, however the black should make for some nice numbers once complete.

The following chart shows the cars power in different boost levels. You will notice even at the lowest boost setting the car made more power uptop then the other higher boost settings.. this is because one extra degree of timing was used during that run.. the car most certainly had a little more in it yet, but we didn't get a chance to push it because I was tuning him as he was traveling across states and the weather changing was effecting our tuning due to him climbing very high altitudes so we decided to stop.

Fuel: 93oct
Evo: 2003 evo 8 gsr

Important Mods:

Map 2.4L
Map stage 5 head
FP Green HTA
Map rev 3 intake manifold
Fic 2150cc
BR double pumper
GM 3" maf and maf translator
Sparktech non cdi
ETS 4" FMIC
Turbosmart Race Port VTA BOV
GSC S3 custom cams
AEM TruBoost

Quick tuning notes: 12* max uptop & 2-3* at peak boost.

In detail the boost during runs were as follows:

Green Line: 21.78 psi spike tapper to 19.17
Blue Line: 24.38 psi spike tapper to 19.88
Red Line: 26.99 psi spike tapper to 20.36

All in all I believe this car would have passed the 500whp barrier on 93octane if given more time to tune the car.

Torque on her is rediculous with such fast spool and response. If you're not already sitting all the way back it will throw you. Amazing job Tom... now for the FP Black.

I have almost the same setup with a MAP 2.3L motor/HTA green 94 octane and results are very close.. I broke 500hp with "virtual dyno"..

The only difference is.. my air/fuel ratio are at 11.8 taper to 11.5.. My max boost is at 26-27psi and taper to 24psi.. almost same timing..

I have couple questions... no matter what I do with the timing/fuel.. I still get 1-2 knock at approx 3800-4200rpm.. Do you have the same issue??

Why do you taper the boost so much to 19-20psi?? it doesn't help your HP if you run more boost? I will try and find my dyno sheet and post it up.. Thanks.

Philip

This car has zero knocksum everywhere. If you're receiving 1-2 counts and they are not pulling timing and the tune is dialed in chances are it is false background noises spiking the voltage and creating knock register. i would tune the knock sensor to accommodate your new engine noises.

Yes that is where I would of liked this car to be also.. 11.5-11.8 afr and it would have went past the 500 barrier with just afr.. it also had some more timing in it with less boost. it probably would have passed well over 500 at just 21psi minus the fun torque.

Why did it drop boost so much? I do not know.. I don't know if its due to the 2.4 airflow charactoristics or the tru boost just not good in general. Personally i would have put ecu boost on the car if i was keeping the setup and force the boost uptop as much as possible.

When we were tuning spool for this car he was hitting it around 2200rpm and it was fully spooled by 3200rpm. Pretty impressive considering it has Huge cams.

Idles great. heres a video the owner showed me because he has some sort of odd transmission noise going on now. Maybe others can help diagnose the sound also.. the video shows the idle though
