LR 2.4 + HTA86 + E85 results and info inside

This customer came in referral from another one of my satisfied customers. Thats usually how it works.. word of mouth.. so this car was making around 480whp on VD when i received it, and Ta ace wanted more, so we began to tune it.

All was well until we hit around 32psi, then we began to blow out the spark.. he regapped the plugs smaller to .019 but no go.. still blowing out spark.. tried to modify the coil dwell settings in the ecu, but no go.. so he purchased a spoolinup cop and we were back in business.

This car produces approx 25-26psi by 4500RPM (depending on where the pull is started) based on the omni 4bar output readings, which are dead on as long as the end user has the evoscan evaluation setup properly (which i did for him remotely based on atmospheric pressure of his location, (Wichita, Kansas)

The cars on Stock ECU + speed density using nothing but the omnipower 4 bar map sensor, and running very consistently and maintaining good AFR even in a crazy weather swinging state like Kansas.

So the mod list below....

Fuel: E85
Vehicle: 2003 Evo 8 GSR

Self Built LR 2.4L (GSC 156mm h beam rods, manley 86.5mm custom pistons)
BC 280 Cams (potential bottleneck)
FIC 2150cc injectors
Ams fuel rail
Buschur double pumper
JMF intake manifold
ETS HTA3586 t4 twin scroll 1.06 A/R turbo kit
ARP L19 studs
AEM cam gears
cometic HG
OBX 3.5" FMIC (potential bottleneck)
Random 3" exhaust system
Muse upper intercooler piping
ETS lower intercooler piping
Tial 50mm BOV
Comp twin plate clutch
Spoolinup coil on plug
Hallman Pro mbc
Tephra v7 SD /w fuel temp iat

Even after changing to heavier springs in the external wastegates, the boost still has problems holding even 34psi to redline.. we are going to put ecu boost on this car and see if we can get it to hold better.. that in itself should raise it up another 60whp or so given the circumstances of this vehicle.

It is still on the stock Fuel lines, which are also most likely bottlenecking the fuel system.. so another thing to address.

The tune is conservative, not aggressive at all.. We did have it over 600wtq, but decided against keeping it there due to the rods, so we left it at a comfortable 560-580tq range.

Below is some of the process as i was adding timing and watching power go up.. this is a critical step for e85, because it is known not to knock depending on AFR, so your only real data is the power output gained per each degree added.

Overall we have done a good 40 pulls in total with this setup to get it where it is safely and well within the safety limits of e85 and mbt.

And below the final results with a smoothing of (2); (New VD only goes from 1-10 smoothing)

love the car now tom its seriously addicting to drive it now, were before i had lost the "want" to drive it when it wasn't running right afr's and stalling out! Thanks again! The next evo is in the garage now getting torn down and you can bet money you will be the only one to touch the tune on it when its done, which will be in the near future!

Curious but even on aftermarket rods 600 LBS of TQ is unsafe?

well they are kind of unknown to what they can handle.. so i rather not push that envelope.. it made about 630 max, but we dropped it back to 580 by retarding timing.

brian crower cams are known to be weak.. i bet the gsc s2 out power these cams uptop...... let alone custom s3's would destroy them. (correct me if im wrong)

ahh this looks very nice, I have the same set up execpt ecu controlled boost, 4.5 ets interooler, and kelford cams.
my hot side is a bit smaller so I should have pretty damn nice spool up.

The BC cams are definitely a bottleneck in the setup. Some GSC S3s would do that setup the world of difference. Interested in seeing the new results with ecu tuned boost.

BC works great in the evo x for some strange reason but in the 7/8/9 i say cosworth or gsc s3 for sure they make great numbers and sound great.

Good numbers btw!
