I bought the Red, other than that the HTA Green looks nice and the new HKS BB unit looks like to be a killer turbo. I feel the Red is an excellent street turbo, I have only driven the car twice and I am already adjusted to the “Lag”. You need to understand one thing, lower boost on the Red will make higher power then that IX turbo, so even though the IX spools faster, you still have a very usable power band with the Red at lower boost. I find that I don’t have to adjust my driving habits at all, the car feels great when I mob around town, so I would suggest at least an FP RED or Green, get some power, AFAIK the only turbo to spool faster than OEM are the new HKS unit and the TME Turbo.

I went from red to black to bbk and feel that the transient response (at any rpm) is way laggier with the red and black compared to the bbk. The green might be comparable though.

Thanks much High_Psi, I've already done plenty of research on the turbos at this point, what I can't seem to find is a comparison with detailed mapping of power under the curve for the units I mentioned on a stock, unopened Mivec engine on 93 octane pump gas. I don't want to hijack this thread so I'll curb myself here, but I do appreciate the discussion I'm all ears for more info, just PM me if anything

I went from Red to Black because I was able to make the swap for little money (sold my Red when the Black was still unproven) and I stepped down to the BBK because I wanted a powerband that would make the car faster in autocross and track events. I also didn't trust the FP turbos to last on the road course.

Any lag increase going from the Red to the Black?

A little bit, but not nearly as much additional lag as going from the previous White Rabbit to the Red. I guess I've had 5 turbos on my car over the years!

They are turbos sir not tampons, you do not need to change them every month.

stripped studs!

Does anyone know where to source some studs locally? My new turbo didn't come with studs on the hotside, so I removed them from my old hotside. They came out, but the threads are stripped. I called all the Mitsu dealerships around and none of them have it in stock.

Do any local auto parts stores have generic versions of these studs? I'd actually rather convert one of these studs over to a bolt.

Otherwise, my car is apart until I get them shipped over from the dealership

Unfortunately it will probably be a chore to find metric studs like that. They are M10 x 1.25 though. I also replaced mine when I put my BBK, but I had the complete hardware set from www.mitsubishiparts.net.

Good luck! Have fun.

FYI I got a call from Ivey today. FP Red. Pump gas 93 octane. 450 WHP 400 Foot Pounds of Torque at 29PSI. The Red owns.
