Man, that is horrible right there and goes to show that not all 4G63 blocks are made the same out of the factory. Some blocks just "survive" the abuse and others..., well... This factor alone is reason for me to get a built block (even if it is a used one) just for the added peace of mind.

 

Well, mine let go because my meth pump lost prime at WOT lol. Wasn't the blocks fault. Worst part is I had a brand new pump wired up ready to go in and I didn't get around to putting it in in time. Oh well lol.

will the ef4 hold out 38 psi with a external wastegate to redline?

 

If you want to do that you have to use a 3 port. that is really putting a lot of stress on the turbo also. it might be ok with a 2.0L but if you have a larger displacement engine like a 2.3-2.4 its not really recommended for the long run of the turbo.

I ran my fp black at 36-37 solid to redline and its still fine, but its a ball bearing garrett center section. i dont know how long a EF4 would hold up at 38psi at high RPM. the shaft speeds are probably well into the danger zone.

 

Tom that's dissapoining considering the advertised rating far exceeds the 594 im putting down now. I have the right set up now to make this turbo roar. Hopefully the dump tube and external gate will do something..also im running a 3port in conjunction with manual boost controller. I just wonder if my internal wastegate 18 psi just isn't gonna do the trick. We will see next week if the external helps. Ill post results.

Well being it has been done many of times all you have to do is search. The op doesn't even own this car anymore and this thread is pretty old. I know Marlo made 650 whp in his on a 2.4 and I know the turbo will do more then that.
