Hi guys
Sorry to bring it up but im not super familiar with knock activity. I have a 2004 evo 8 rs. And my cel flashes usually 4 times slowly in first most often n sometimes in second when i step on the gas. I dont hear anysoind like knocking or pinging that i was told would be a result of detonation, and i also dont feel and change in the vehicles preformance during the time its flashing. So idk if it could be something else i am running 93 oct with a booster that brought it up to 96oct. To try and prevent auto ignition. The car has cans and a 3" tb straight pipe exhuast. And an aem ram intake. Other than that i neliev it to be stock. I bought the car and it has been tunes so i dont k o the specs of the tune or what the light may indicate. Any help you guys could offer for diagnosis would be great as i have searchdd and have came up with nothing. Recently spoke to a new tu er and am looking to have the car tetuned as i dont want to damage anything but until them i just am tryin to figure out whats going on thanks

Depends on who set up your tune & the counts of knock that is making the CEL flash
You need to have your car ECU logged to determine how many counts of knock & why this is occurring. Street log will be cheaper than the Dyno

Take to the tuner asap to have a look at the tune. If you have a tactrix cable you can log some pulls to see what your ignition timing looks like. Any exhaust rattling or engine noise can sometimes set off the knock sensor but safe just have the car looked at.
If its detonation would it only happen in 1 n 2 and its not every time. Or would it happen in anygear when i hit the throttle. I wish i new who tuned it so i could contact them and find out. My afr seems to be good according the the info i have found online. What is a street log? Or where can i find the information to determine if whats happening is harmful. Thank you guys i appreciate the input
Just have someone who understands the ECU parameters plug into the ECU & do some 3rd gear pulls, on the street, to find out whats going on

I'm not far from doylestown and have a tactrix cable if you want to do some logs this weekend. I would think you would still see knock in gears 3 and 4 if it was really knock. It sounds like false knock but no way to know without further investigation. Is the cel flashing at a certain rpm? The AFR might be good but who knows what timing you are running. How much gas is in the car? Can you fill up at another station? Just try to rule out the obvious.
Hey thanks, yea im not exactly sure what to look for so if u kno id def be interested in finding out whats going on. I usually fill up at liberty gas in town premium 91 bur more recenty ive been going to sunoco n gettin ultra 93. This past week i filled the tank with 93 and added an octane booster that brings it up 3 points so im am running 96oct right now. I tead lower octane can combust early so running higher octane u have a less chance. It oky seems to do it in 1st and second. I cant say i have ever seen it to it in 3, 4, or 5. So like i said just tryin to figure out whats going on i cant say for sure but it seems to do it between 2500 and 3500 when the turbo starts to spool up
