Wow, KY police are way cooler than a lot of other states I guess.. I have been pulled over a lot. Usually for cornering too fast (not a joke) or expired tags or something like that that's legit Only ticket I ever got was for doing 79 in the 55 following a friend and I was 17.

I have a feeling So Cal has some extra hard *** cops, because up north they dont really bother us too much. Knock on wood! I have been caught doing some tire spinning from a stoplight (with a loud o2 dump) in the rain, and cops just drove by and gave me a stare down. Lol. They don't seem to care about traffic stuff much.

Hey, im deep in the South here, & have been pulled over & let go w/a warning (Sheriffs Dept). It depends on where you live & what agency is the main patrolling dept.

Now, When i see the CHP, i cringe. Have little positive regard for those fine men

That's it right there. It's just that sheriffs and police dont really care, but the CHP certainly DO care!

All these police profiling stories is one reason I don’t drive my evo much and has contributed to my whopping 34k overall miles. Living in SoCal is tough since local PDs and CHP is always around. Many years ago I got pulled over in Azusa by local PD and got a state referee ticket; I ended up paying the fine and moving on. Since then I got pulled over once by Sheriffs but the officer was nice enough to let me go - as Don said, be nice and it goes a long way.

As for smog purposes, my car would never pass visual let alone the actual test so I always pay to get it “passed”. I like the idea of registering my vehicle out of state but how what would this exempt us from? Smog and any state referee visits?

You get it done by this service here. There are no inspections / smog required in Montana

Parts. Along with the central coast areas. My town is really bad, too, though it's gotten better. I used to be able to drive down the local "cruise" street and see nothing but cars lined up on both sides with hoods popped. My town got a grant for a "street racing" problem and established a program called "Drag Net" which they used to harass all the car peeps. It was nuts.

Exactly that. I don't mind smogging my car, except the smog refs are so scared by the B.A.R., they give me crap every time I take the car in. They think I'm a secret shopper or if they pass my car and missed something they get a five-figure fine and/or loose their license. I'm just tired of dealing with it. My down has occasional "courtesy" smog checks on random roads. Supposedly it's to do "research". Then there is the "if I get pulled over for anything under the sun I can get sent to the smog ref" stuff, even if my car is stock. I'm just too old/lazy/tired to deal with it, so would rather give my money to a state that doesn't punish me for owning the car.

Just be aware of California tax laws regarding LLCs. I was 99% done going this route until I found out.

I inquired with both licensing companies & non of their CA clients are being charged this fee. It has something to do with these Montana LLC's are not businesses & therefore not subject to the CA Franchise Tax

From what I was told, CA has a minimum tax on businesses outside the state, if the company is owned by someone who primarily resides i California. They want to be sure they get their cut. If you have no income to report, then LLCs, INCs, etc have a minimum tax of $800. To be fair, I was told this by a tax prepare person who hasn't worked for IRS since the early 2000s. Maybe things have changed. To be honest, I don't see how two states can tax income.

That would be awesome. I'm just going by what my tax woman said, but maybe she just didn't know. How do they not consider a Limited Liability Company a business? Because this would be a lot easier than driving to Reno for my NV reg.

Jason. This is the first Montana service i contacted. They are almost 2X more expensive than the $49 company

Call them and ask if any of the their CA clients have reported this FTB fee
https://www.mtvehicles.com/

But I agree, we haven't fully settled this $800.00 per year fee just yet

BTW, i have a very good young friend who just graduated with his masters in accounting & just past the CPA test. I asked him about this & he had no clue LOL

LOL. Yeah, it's kind of a mystery. I wouldn't mind going forward with it except that's quite an expensive "oops" if it's true. I think I'll wait for another guinea pig
