Sales tax is the reason this got started. People didn't like paying 8-9% sales tax on cars and motor homes that were six figures. I can't blame them. I still want to find someone who is currently doing this and talk to them. For something so simple and cheap, you would think everybody would be doing it.

Sales tax can be a tricky thing too. If I would have bought my car from a dealership of any kind, I still would have been taxed even though it would have been a CA registered car getting registered in AZ. But since I got it private party, there was no tax. If I was to bring my car back to CA within the first year, I would still be taxed. If I have the car registered in AZ for over a year and bring it back to CA, no tax. Not sure if Montana is the same way. I know most of you have had your car for over a year so that shouldnt be an issue.

BTW - I paid $135 for 2 years of reg. That also included all taxes and fees for the title transfer. There were no crazy up front fees like that Montana deal.

All this talk about emissions and laws has me thinking about selling my evo and getting a c6z..

You guys hear about cars getting red flagged?

My buddy recently went to get smogged, and after the test was one he was red flagged. Now he has to go see a ref.

The smogger is an evo owner with a shop...so nothing shady on his end.

Supposedly they are cracking down on "weird" smogs...like if you live in Huntington but go to Temecula for a smog you might be on a list.

This is all hearsay just what ive heard...

Yes, those people all leave their cars registered in MT until sales tax is no longer an issue on the CA side. I don't blame them. They save $1000s or even $10,000s.

Goooolly, there is no way I would ever live there Holy crap. Sounds like little Europe with all the fees and huge taxes None of that seems like it'd be worth it to live there unless family was there or something
I'm glad I have no idea what a smog ref is lol

Depends. I've given this a lot of serious thought:
I have a couple friends leaving for Henderson, NV because they are tired of paying so much income tax. I thought about it, however I live 2-3hrs from the beach, Yosemite, San Francisco, L.A.. I can get to San Diego, Vegas, Reno. I have a plethora of tracks within driving distance.
Honestly, I don't mind paying for all that convenience. Yeah, I could have a fat house in Kansas for dirt cheap, but meh.
My friends don't travel to any of those places I mentioned, they built there homes to spend all their time there. For them it makes more sense to move.
So, I have to keep my car smog-passable and I'm okay with that. Since I'm not into drag racing or shows, the OEM stuff works well and I have 450whp.
Add to that my friends and family are all here. I really have no reason to leave other than... to have a different turbo kit?

I think I can live with that.

Aye Kaj or M. Previous how do you feel about that fp54 vs the zephyr ?
I'm really trying to avoid " The Boys "
It never ends well when it comes to me.
I'm 6'2, afro americano by the way.
Come to think about it, the police never really bothered me driving the car

To be honest I love my evo stock, I just wish it had a little bit more up top.
I can barely make it to Vegas on a tank, but I still love her😁
Thoughts are all over the place SORRY.

Yeah, im not the best when it comes to specing turbos. Im only running the 1/2 FP turbo (71HTA)

That FP Zep looks like a beast at a flow rate of 65lbs per min vs the FP54 Green at 57lbs

Kaj has a better feel for turbo specs

I stick to small, stock-framed turbos, to tell the truth. Largest I've used is a Green. It was okay but not as fun for me as the HTA71.. plus it blew up after a couple thousand miles I don't really pay much attention to larger turbos because I don't want to have to do all the supporting mods needed for 500+whp (due to cost, reliability, fitment, smog).
@lonestarr20 to tell the truth: 350-400whp seems to be the sweet spot for these cars. It actually adds to what makes the car so fun to drive without taking it too far into a single direction.

The FP54 is a Green with 9 blade exhaust turbine wheel. It's lighter than their standard 11 blade so less rotating mass and flows better since bigger gaps between blades (since 2 less blades). FP54 works better than their regular Green. You can find lots of results searching.

What in heck was the ticket for? I can't think of a VC that covers a rear spoiler.

Keep in mind that if you get pulled over with out of state plates and a ca license they'll impound your car and you'll have to pay a large fine (it is a misdemeanor not a traffic infraction) in addition to having to fix any nonlegal mods.
