Anyone actually have the total weight saved with ABS removal? I'm planning to yank my engine this winter for a refresh, and it sounds like a worthwhile thing with the motor out. I searched this thread and only saw a guess at the weight saved.

 

Im about to do the RS non abs brake line kit myself, I want to say its 11lbs but dont quote me.


I have my head off right now so I figured its the best time to do it as well as the EGR delete crap.

Anyone have any information on the battery posts before buying a Lithium battery?

The shorai looks like it would be difficult to get the stock terminal on there without getting the post elevated. The ballistic looks like it has a bump in the middle, making it difficult to work for most mini-battery kits.

 

The Ballistic 100-012 "Evo2" 12-cell Li-Fe battery I used accepts the same standard battery post/hardware as the Odyssey PC680 I had before.

That "bump" in the middle of the Ballistic battery is a port for their special charger (which I opted not to buy), but I just used zip ties that went on either side of the port down around/through my own mounting plate (just 1/8" thick ABS plastic)... AFAIK nobody is making kits for mounting these tiny motorcycle batteries in cars (yet).

Ballistic claims the 100-012 weighs 2.44 lb:

- but they lie: mine weighed 2.75 pounds. Yeah, that's only a little over 1/4 pound difference, but when consider how little the battery weighs overall, that's a misrepresentation of 13%!



With the brass battery terminal posts from the old setup, the Ballistic 12-cell battery weighs just a hair over 3 lb:

I just used the supplied foam with the Shorai to build up a base to set it on top of, using the Nisei mini battery tray. It worked well enough.

 

Which Shorai did you go with and how is it working out for you?

Also which terminals are you using? Im hoping to not have to hack up the factory battery leads...

 

if you want to go a cheap route, my deka etx14 hasnt dissapointed and i run it in the stock battery tray, just had to buy a 3 dollar universal tie down kit from autozone.

if your going for ultimate weight savings (deka is about 10 pounds)...let me know how the shorai works for you ive been looking into them

 

Well I actually pulled the trigger on a Shorai earlier today. I bought the largest one which is 540CCA so hopefully it wont leave me stranded.

Now I just gotta figure out how to mount it as well as what battery posts are needed. My plan is to lay it down flat dremmel up the stock battery tray a little and create a simple tie down strap using some scrap aluminum or the stock bracket.

I thought it would be cool to lay it down flat so I purchased the reverse polarity one so when I lay it flat and when I flip it over it will essentially be + - Then push it as far back in the tray as possible, the idea being to keep the weight as low and as far back as possible.

Of course once I have it in front of me, the plans may change but at least for now that's how I visualize it.

Probably way more work than its worth as I could have done exactly what you did in about 5 minutes but I like to over complicate things

 

Anyone have a true weight of an OEM crank pulley?

I'd like to compare it to the Fluidampr part # 610701. I've heard it is lighter by a pound or two. According to Fluidampr's spec sheet theirs weighs 6.8 lbs.

Has anyone on here compiled all this information and put it into an Excel document? There is so much great info that has been shared by many different folks on here so I'm just wondering if anyone has put it into an .xls file.

From there we could set up different drop downs that could help categorize things such as free items vs paid for, safety items, things that can be removed but re installed in need be it, even just labeled in terms of mild to wild.

Not to mention the obvious benefits on an excel document being that we could automatically tally the amount of weight dropped as well as associated costs/ time and effort involved.

My car is really coming along in terms of engine and suspension so I'm now starting to look into shedding the lbs.

Im willing to help put something like this back together. I'm just wondering what is currently out there as I know there are many of you who keep tabs on these sorts of things in a very organized manor.

 

I would support this. A public Google Docs spreadsheet would be fantastic so we could all add new data as time goes on. I wonder if there is newer data than the 2012 edits on the first page.
