nice job there You should put some filters over the fans. It cuts down on airflow, but cars are really dusty... Also prevents small stuff from falling in. I like your screen, too.

Everyone has their own preferences and likes. It's not like he has his hands on the controller rather than the steering wheel. Just because you have a/c and wipers doesn't mean you have them on all the time.

My other friend who has an evo has his laptop in his car alllllll of the time to do data logging, so I would've actually guessed that more of you would have one in your cars. You can also get a bunch of programs that let you do a lot more stuff like gauges and logging of other kinds of data.

Out of curiosity, what are the brand and specs (aside from size) on the hard drive?

I don't understand why people who hate this concept of a car pc keep checking this thread you would think all the time they spend on the forums trolling and bsing about things they don't like they would already have a carputer so they could insult peoples installs and ideas even while they were in the car?
I love your carputer

Wow this is the real reason ppl cant stand forums. You give an opinion and someone has to open their mouths negatively. I think he was diggin the answering of questions. It nothing but constructive criticism. I gave my input because I am a computer technician. I wanted to give him other options and suggestions. I never flamed him for his hard work, just gave him some constructive criticism. He showed his own humility, and is hanging tough. You dont need to add your negativity take that $hit Elsewhere

Nice setup! Im looking to do something similar but with a laptop in the trunk... You can pick up a decent laptop with a broken screen for like Nothing and just hook it up to your Touch screen. Also with a laptop you will have less power draw. All the parts are designed to be portable. Its light weight and you can get various PCMI cards from Cellphone providers for internet.

Have you thought about Using a two way alarm to turn on/off your computer. THat way you could control it from a two way pager. Most two way alarms come with extra features so you can turn on/off various different things in your car. THis could easily be set up to turn your computer on and off. You could get the computer started before you get to the car. And if you add a wireless feature you could turn the computer on while you are in your house and download/upload files from the Computers hard drive from your home PC. With a computer in the car the possibilites are endless.

Wow... so much hate for a good idea. Nice setup. The only thing I'd change is the DVD. Get a slot load laptop DVD drive and a IDE to USB adaptor.

Also, all the haters need to keep something in mind. PC's do more than watch movies and play games. You have music, GPS nav. vehicle tracking via cellular data link, speed and location logging, ODB interface options, video recording w/ cam, reverse cam etc. Lots of options for a few hundred bucks in hardware.

A few hours to get everything right. Mediaengine has a program you can download for editing skins.
