Games, wow factor, I can add them without adding any additional weight to the system, it is all programming.

Mainly...because I can, I want to. I make payments on the car, I can do what I please with it.

If anyone here wants to make my paymentsfor me, I would be happy to mod it the way they wanted.

I don't quite understand why I am being asked to justify any addition I make.
So, basically, you installed a computer - mainly for the HD space - so you could have a load of songs. But, since the computer was going in, you put a DVD-ROM in there (hence the playing of DVD's) and you can install video games onto the computer.

I wanted a car computer for music, and navi also it would be cheaper and better then buying a navi head unit. more options possibly in the feature for tuning ect.. I don't mean to be and *** talon but you keep coming back to this thread to act like the builder of this car computer put it in so he could play the sims whil driving down the highway and watch next friday while cruising through a school zone or something. From the start of this thread I never read anything about playing video games and dvd movies ecept from you.
just my 2 cents
STOP BEEING SO CRITICAL OF OTHER PEOPLE

And again I love your car computer and I want to put one in my car so I can play me nes emulator and watch **** while driving to work.

Why don't you people relax. Critical is only a frame of mind. Some of you should care a lot less what others think of your car.

Yes, I have a radio, but last time I checked, a radio doesn't require the occupants to watch a screen... or require near the attention span.

And, no, I don't talk on my cell phone while I'm driving... but thanks for your concern.

All I am saying is I don't understand the logic. Personally, I would never leave my couch to go out to my car and watch a movie or play a video game.

To each their own... do what ever you want.

I noticed skimming through page one people say not in an evo yada yada... Well... Thats not true. I want something like this. One, is for music, I am not into the subs but the stock radio sucks because it is not mp3 etc, plus people riding with you can watch DVD's but!

Everyone says it is a high performance car.... So then tell me why I shouldn't do this.... I'll tell you why I would... I use a laptop with my UTEC, and will need it when I get the AEM... Both use a computer to run... So running windows, and being able to pull up the logs for real time makes for ease of recording the logs, hell you can view it while driving rather then turning your head and looking down to see it on the road.

Nice, I did the same thing, but I actually built a PC with a case that was meant for a car, with a PS that has a shutdown controller, etc.

I'm still messing with it, but I got it for three main reasons:

1. Engine Management/tuning/gauges
2. GPS
3. DVD/music

Here is a link to the thread that has some of my pics.

Have you implemented Management/tuning/gauges yet? If so, which route did you go?

Setup looks really good.

Yes, I use ECUFlash and EvoScan. I also have Innovate's LogWorks application, but EvoScan should have support for the LC-1 ans SSi4 pretty soon, so all I should need is EvoScan.

So, I could have a bunch of gauges on the screen, like wideband, boost, coolant temp, etc.

This is one of my concerns about the setup as well. You do have fans and designed the PC layout with airflow in mind though. I am just wondering how susceptible to heat exhaustion the PC is going to be during summer, especially a Florida summer. You are going to have to keep us posted on that.

Other than that, kudos to the system. I am now thinking about something similar because head units are just not cutting it with the sound-driven visual feedback I am looking for. If I had your setup, I would totally be using Winamp with Milkdrop in full-screen all the time. I am such a sucker for functional eye-candy.

Is there anything special with your hard drive or did you do anything special for it in terms of vibration dampening? I can just imagine hitting a bump or pot hole the wrong way making the drive heads crash into the platters.

One thing that would make the system better is using a double-din touch screen and hacking it to work with the PC just so you would not have to worry about a screen flopping around, but that is a lot of work. Another would be running a USB extension up to the dash so that you could interface with all sorts of other devices (flash drives, hard drives, memory card adapters, and so on). And you could even put a bluetooth adapter in the PC box and use that to interface with a bluetooth GPS so that you can add navigation to your setup. PC's are so fscking flexible!

Not trying to rub anyone the wrong way when I say this, but I am not sure why everyone is unhappy with the DVD drive placement. It is only for getting music/video onto the PC, which has a huge-*** hard drive on it. With this setup, you are going to be playing everything from the hard drive and not the disc. You could play files from the disc, but why bother when you got a hard drive.

Heat really isn't an issue. I ran this same setup in my 3000GT which has the big hatch trunk. Even with the sun heating up the trunk area through the enormous rear window, I had no overheating problems.

The Hard-Drive is mounted vertically. If i happen to hit a large pothole the platters are arranged so that they won't bump eachother or the needle. Like I said, had the setup in my 3000GT, after a year and a half I still have no bad sectors on the Hard Drive.

I'm getting ready to redo the switch panel. Just don't like the way it is setup atm, and am running an extra USB extension cable to mount in the plate.

I addressed the double-din earlier in the thread. I wanted to still have the Head-Unit running the audio, so there just isn't enough room for a 2-din screen - a head unit - and the HVAC controls.

Deontae,

It is an "Autopc" screen. Do a search on Ebay for "touchscreen monitor".

I get what you were saying earlier, but I am not sure if you are getting what I am saying. There are double-din head units out there with touch-screens out there. I am saying hack one of those so you get the best of both worlds (secured touch-screen and the head unit controlling audio both in the same package).

Unless you really love that Pioneer head?

Ah, I see what you mean.
Interesting idea. However, I had my old touchscreen apart, and though I think it is very possible, I think it would be a huge pita with a very high probability of feckin up the unit itself.

maybe if I could find one cheap someplace I could have one to fiddle with. I don;t think I wanna get one of those expensive units to tear apart though.

Those screens usually aren't VGA either. You need VGA touchscreen for a computer, not a composite or S-Video input or anything like that.
