First off, welcome to the club Paulnsx!

LayinLo, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Alright, so you did some head shopping. The main thing to stress there is to make sure you have one picked out with ALL of the features you want or you are just going to want to buy another one later. And since it is hard to know what you want without knowing what is out there, I am just going to rattle some off:

- hard drive
- mp3 CD
- USB
- navigation
- satellite radio
- bluetooth
- DVD movies
- pretty graphics
- 3-way sound control
- remote control
- spectrum analyzers
- 5+ band equalizer

If you are going to be really serious about your car audio, I definitely suggest something that will give you the last four.

So to answer one of your most recent questions, YES, get an amp to drive any speaker replacements. You will just save a lot of frustration and heartache that way.

Also, since you live in Worcester, I can totally help you out with the install. I got a decent garage we can work in.
thanks for the advice guys

still considering my options lol... randy i'll definitely be in touch w/ you... you know a lot more about this **** than i do!

Yeah, definitely just hit us up with questions here.

After you buy your stuff, we can totally make an audio garage day out of it.

Thanks man!

I just ordered this...

Pioneer Premier DEH-P690UB
Alpine SPS-17C2 (2 pairs)

I was *thinking* about getting the 2 DIN orbital conversion + Pioneer AVIC-D3... but its more $$$ than I really want to spend right now.

+1 for Pioneer 5900 deck
i just installed one in my IX MR and love it! you control the Ipod through the head unit, and your ipod becomes more of a hard drive than anything, just tucked away in the glove box... plus the blue lights are sick looking!!! If its not enough sound you can upgrade the factory door speakers... or if you dont mind the extra weight add a sub woofer of some type (which you can control volume/level separately from the rest of the car's speakers with this head unit, and other quality head units.) i used to have a system in other cars, but I dont want the extra weight, plus I the sound of my exhaust is bad-*** and I wouldnt want to drown it out with bass
