Question OEM Keyless Entry Question

Hey this may be an odd question or a over-asked question, but for about the last 5 months my horn no longer beeps when i lock the doors on my 2003 Evo. I am betting the battery in the clicker is dying which may drive the lack of the honk? The keyless still works fine, just no beep. And the horn still works perfectly in every other application.

Any thoughts EvoM, recommendations?

There is a procedure to turn it off or on. It says in the owners manual how to change it. Or you can call the dealer to find out how to do it. I personally forgot how to do it.

hmm thanks i will need to read the manual. I was wondering if it was the "Car" telling me that the remote's battery was getting low. I will see what the owners manual has to say though.

Sounds like something is wrong with the keyless system in the car. How's the range on your remote?

I honestly think the range is week, and in all honesty the batteries are 4 years old at this point. If i swap batteries does it need to be "reprogrammed"? I am willing to be it does.

No. The car is programmed to accknowledge that key FOB. Swapping batteries will change nothing. I seriously doubt that has anything to do with your horn not beeping as the key FOB doesn't tell the horn to beep or not, the keyless entry system does. I bet you dissabled it somehow or there is another issue, but I am willing to bet its not the battery.

Really? Swapping batteries in the FOB made the horn beep again? I guess the keyless entry system is smarter than me.

It is normal, its a feature you can turn on or off when u lock the door to have it beep or not like wizzo8 said in the first post... my bro has the honk and I don't (I like to be more discreet) if I press it twice it'll honk... but the first press won't honk

I must have deativated it. So i pulled out the owners manual and sure enough it works again.

Hold the "lock" button for 4-10 seconds and the press the "unlock" button during that time, releasing both buttons at the same time.

Lock (Press and Hold 4-10 seconds)
Unlock (Tap during the 4-10 seconds)
Release both Lock and Unlock after you "tap" unlock.

Done.

Thanks guys.
