wire tuck issues/concerns
I'm looking into having a buddy start wire tucking my engine bay. He is an experienced electrician but totally unfamiliar with cars. He asked me if there are any sensors where the wires cannot change in length.
I was curious if anyone experienced with a wire tuck has any tech info they'd like to share?

Attempting the wire tuck myself and I had the same thought, however, I've determined the since all the sensors eventually terminate at the ECU connector adding a couple ft. of wire should not change anything. He should be able to verify this by placing a load in Ohms on each wire connecting to the sensor (long and tedious process). If the Sensor measures the correct Ohm reading then the sensor should function properly.
My testing method is going to involve removing the sheething from each wire I lengthen at the base, where it connect to the ECU plug and do my load testing from there. This should be no different then testing a bad sensor.

I did a minor wire tuck when I did my 2.3 install & have yet to see any issues. As long as you use the correct gauge wire & solder all connections then you should be OK. I extended all the injector, coil pack, cam sensor, & o2 sensor harnesses. Probrobly a few others that I'm not thinking of too & didn't see any issues. I ran the injector harness under the intakemanifold & just extended everything that was then out of reach. Feel free to ask if you've got any questions but it's all pretty straight forward. For the normal wire tuck there will naturally be a minuscule loss, but nothing in the electrical system is a constant either. EG: Wires ability to handle current also changes with temperature. The best thing you can do is use some good Raychem or similar heat shrink tube and some good quality silver coated wire to minimize any loss. I'm not sure if it matters but I always try to keep the wire gauge the same too. It would not hurt to buy 14, 16, 18 GA wire sizes.
To sum it up, you won't have any problems. Do NOT use crimp connectors. Solder.
I extended my coil wires with 16gauge and solder it because my hks dli2 would not reach the stock harness., just picked up a buschur cdi so im pretty sure i can just return the harness back to oem length. The only issue i have now is the front oxygen sensor will not reach. Im going to have to extend that to make it work.. Other then that you should have no issues . I do not suggest messing to much with the factory harness , and its very expensive..

I might be one you want to speak with. I have done a complete teardown and redo of the ENTIRE engine bay wire harness. Literally opened the ENTIRE harness up, and redid EVERY wire in the engine bay.
Here is a teaser picture for you.
I wouldn't have a problem speaking with you on the phone if you wanted to. In fact, it would probably be easier that way.
If you do it right, 95% of the wires will be SHORTENED, not lengthened, FYI.
And it takes an absurd amount of time and patience..

I've tucked a lot of the harness to under the IM, and I also did a lot of the wires by the engine compatment fuse box.
I soldered, and double heat shrunk everything. Going on two years with out a blip.
