Thumbs down evo 8 SSL sound system

Hey,
New evo owner, first batch of money is going into Alarm system, then window tinting.... i reallly want to get rid of the stock cd player but that is not priority over the tint or alarm...

Does the system suck all around, or is it just my car? I swear every bump makes the cd player skip, and it NEVER recovers from skipping, you have to change the song...

driving me crazy.
/end rant

Haven't listened to CD's in a very long time. Get a headunit that you can connect to an Ipod or MP3 player and you'll never experience a skip again .

I also have not used a CD in literally years.

My headunit supports Ipods, MP3 Players etc. But it also supports USB sticks, which is what I use. I load songs on my USB stick and plug it into my headunit.

It works great

I know all about ipod connectivity... my old car had an expensive doubledin ipod/dvd/nav touch screen, I have not used cds in years either, but I dont see myself getting a new head unit for at least a month, I guess this was more about venting

I have an evo 8 ssl and I have listen to a cd in the car but it's not the stock radio. Get your self a headunit. I have a sony xplod that came with the car so I don't how much this cost nor do I have intentions to change it out because it works fine. A headunit would be better for the cd listening and the sound quality tends to be better also.

I never had a skipping problem when I have my stock SSL radio, and I don't have a problem with my upgraded headunit either.

Either you have really huge bumps, or a problem with the headunit...

Stock headunit, no skipping issues. Just buy a used one with low mileage or try cleaning yours

The stock SSL system with a decent aftermarket head unit actually sounds pretty good.

They make CD cleaner kits. But I would just upgrade the headunit and not look back. The stock head unit blows.

Ha ha, CDs are dead. I think my next HU i'll get one of those Alpines that doesn't even have a CD player.

I would not bother trying to clean or fix it, just get a decent aftermarket HU and your sound will improve along with less skipping.
