Speedometer Doesn't work (replaced vss/plug)

Hello everyone,
I'm baffled on this, I just had my clutch done by the shop I work at and when we put everything back together the speedometer stopped working. I went ahead and replaced both the sensor and the wiring harness however the speedometer still reads zero and I get a P0500 code about 20 minutes into driving. A little about the car, it has had the engine harness replaced due to water seepage before and it was sealed up with silicone and hopefully I won't encounter this issue again. The car is a 2005 Evo MR 6spd with about 94,000 miles on it (not increasing since the speed sensor is dead).

One thing to note, the car is putting on some mileage, for every tank of gas I run through I put on about 5-7 miles on it.

I have checked the fuses (not sure if any of the fuses would affect the speedometer alone) and everything else in the car functions perfectly fine.

Any help is much appreciated.

did you end up fixing it? I broke the speedo in my impreza when I had it but it ended up being the needle that goes in the back. different cars though so I know it doesn't help.

How do you replace the vss? I've got the bolt out but the sensor won't come out

It pulls straight up. The seal is an o-ring.

Stupid me, I did this once. The rear motor mount has some green and gold bolts in it. They appear to be the same except for color. They are not! Some are very slightly longer than the others. Insert a longer bolt at the VSS location and you can't remove or insert the VSS. Also, screwing a large bolt into the side of the plastic VSS probably does it no good. This may be the cause of some of the problems mentioned above.
