Evo IX RS Stereo Install
Ok so I searched and searched and searched. Found a bunch of tid bits here and there but not the quality kind of information I can usually find on the forums. I just bought the car and it is completely stock everywhere except for:
1. K&N drop in filter
2. Sony head unit
3. Sony speakers in the front and rear.
So after owning an 03 gsr, I became used to the speaker sound it offered. The speaker sound in this car is "not powerful" and doesn't really hit the lows like the GSR stock system did.
My question is: What stereo components are missing out of the IX RS that a IX GSR (non SSL) has.
I'm thinking I have the 4 speakers and head unit, but may still need an amplifier.
Can anyone confirm this? Any help is greatly appreciated
Thanks

Thanks Jeff! Does anyone know if my setup is missing something?
Right now I have:
1. HEad Unit
2. Front and rear speakers
Should/DO I need to add an amplifier?

I'd suggest buying a set of stock speakers from the classifieds, sealing and deadening the front doors, and using an Alpine deck of your choice with their Power Pack. If you'd like to run the factory tweeters, you'll need to purchase a set of non-RS A-pillar covers ($100 for both). You'll have a system that sounds much better than stock GSR.
im in the process of putting a stereo and speakers in my rs now. and went to put speakers in and looks like i need brackets to mount them?? the speakers are kenwood 6-3/4 and should fit. does anyone know what i need??
6.75" should fit into the factory cutouts, but you'll likely have to drill for the mounting screws. Typically, 6.5" drivers are used with factory-fit adapters found on ebay.

Ok so I just went to a car audio store. Here is what their opinion was for my setup:
Sony Xplode Head Unit and Xplode speakers (currently in the car) are among the $hitiest audio components I could have.
They simply recommended replacing with a better head unit and quality speakers. Said it would sound 10 times better afterwards guaranteed.
Any opinions?

Installed a friends old Alpine head unit saturday. Only took 30 minutes and the problem is fixed. Xplode head unit was the culprit. I think the sound could even get one step better yet with a few Alpine type-r's in the doors and trunk deck. Thanks everyone for your help!
