Question What is causing this Problem?

Saturday night i'm driving along and my intercooler pipe popped off my intake manifold and the clamp was completely gone. Being it was midnight i couldn't go buy a new clamp and had to drive VERY slowly to my buddies house. Next day i bought a new clamp and after tighting the hell out of the clamp it still popped off 3 more times on sunday.

Could there be another issue that is causing the clamp to keep popping off? or is it just being a pain in the @$$?

Verify your boost levels. You may be overboosting and popping the hose off. Or sometimes it's an oil thing. Make sure you don't have any oil spraying around the engine compartment, can cause the same problems.

ya i checked for a coolant or oil leak and none found. running stock boost so that's not an issue. i just don't need any serious problem with this car right now so i hope its just being a pain. I like driving WOT to much so i don't need to be parinoid every time i hit the gas.

I've had my upper IC pipe pop off and nail the roof of the hood and put a hole in that lining in there, I just tightened it back up and I always check it after I go WOT for abit because it begins to slide off. I think i'm just gonna have to get a hard pipe kit soon or a stronger clamp.

Try 2 clamps and tighten the hell out of them and make sure no oil around to help it slip off!

You hear of this all the time on here. I've never heard it happening this much though. I would look into some new intercooler hoses if you can afford them or bring it in to the dealer.

ok...i had this prob b4...my damn hose pop off 3 times in one day...running 21 psi...go buy a nice strong clamp..i got it from home depo....i had to but the hose and the clamp together...cuase its the strongest i could find...when u put it on...losen the other clamp that connects to the pipe...then tighten the clamp for the throttle body 1st...then tighten the clamp to the pipe 2nd...

reason for tighten the one on the throttle 1st, is if you dont it usually, the whole pipe pulls on the throttle area, that combine w. the heat from the engine it comes lose easily...

or if u want better solution, just go and buy a t-bolt clamp...

Hmm acually i've never thought of doing that, I have another clamp from the stock MAF pipe that goes to the turbo that I tried on the IC pipes but it didn't hold it anymore than the regular one does. I'll try them both on there at the same time...

Ok guys I had the same problem. The factory clamps seem to be crap. I retightened a couple times still popped off. So what I did was go to a place that sells part for semis. Yes semis, the type of clamp they use is a type that is spring loaded with pressure on the nut that tightens the clamp down. Since then I have had no more problems with my hoses blowing off. Plus it was only five bucks to fix. Jegs also sells some t-bar clamps that look like about the same idea. Hope this helps.
