How many broke their transfer case after removing their restrictor plate? I'm interested.

The restrictor removal won't break anything. It makes your clutch last longer. What breaks the TC is doing high RPM drops with no restrictor. AWD is hard on itself when you shock it. If you remove the restrictor you have to do its job with your foot/leg. During normal driving it is much better with no restrictor. Mine is removed.

With an upgraded clutch, you can break the TC just (almost) as easy with the restrictor still installed... its been done more than once...

I seen about 5 TC's busted. 1 from the removal of the restrictor pill. 1 from after market clutch and removal of restrictor. And the other 3 from after market clutch and ultra light wieght flywheel, which two of the 3 had stell brided clutch line.

I think that the surface you launch off of has just about as much to do with wheel hop as your tires do. I can do a light launch off of asphault and the tires will just spin a bit, on concrete I had better be careful, I have felt the beginings of wheel hop and immediatly jumped off of the throttle, I see no reason to risk it.

Speaking of road surfaces.. I'd like to mention that launching at the track can be a lot different than launching on the street. Depending on how well the track is prepped, some tracks love spraying a lot of VHT at the starting line to help the guys running slicks. This is not good for us AWD cars! We actually want a slightly slick surface as it will help us launch smoothly. Sticky track surfaces = more chances of getting wheel hop = more chances for breakage.

The only thing I've seen in the evo that seems to break TC's the most in evos is the drivers.
